I know someone who got one silly cheap because of an incurable electrical fault. Cured by replacing the knackered second battery that nobody knew existed

They can be mega money if they go slightly wrong. They have two windscreen wipers, they have a habit of getting out of sync and crash into each other. Thats about £1K to repair apparently. The flap which covers the heater vents in the central dash is another £1000 if it goes wrong. Someone I know with the W12 version spent over £1200 on some pipework and other bits  Not to mention the size of the tyres and brakes, no doubt thousands for those too.

Nice cars but Im not sure if they justify the running costs.

If you want a VW with a nice engine and lower running costs, get a Passat W8. 8-)

I saw a new Passat yesterday...

:vomit3:

What have they done to it? It looks horrible. I used to like the look of the old Passat as well but the new one is just wrong

I dont know, I think they styled it on a shoe box, it's so dull, boring and square. The previous one was a much better looking car. You also have to have the Passat and new Jetta side by side to tell them apart, so thats two cars with dull styling!

I think we have just about seen the last of the V6s, V8s and such, the manufacturers are going for smaller units with turbos now. :(

I am sure the faults allegedly cursing the Phæton, are no worse than typical Citroën maladies. A bit of Malc's favourite, and some of Jim's favourite, should see them sorted.

There is no getting away from the prices of their parts though, and all for a VW badge? :?

I'd find it hard to justify those sort of maintenance costs for a VW. I'd sooner take the plunge for a 2002-2005 Mercedes S430 or BMW 745i. Although the interior and gadgets in that shape of S Class look so dated compared to the BM!

Now that is a bit special! A LWB Renault Safrane, go on Luke, buy it, having an armoured car in Belfast must be an advantage? :P

Lol! It would make a change from these!!

At £10k I'm afraid it'll have to wait! I checked another off the list this afternoon - the Volvo S80. Chris, I know you're a fan! It's a bit weathered, and it's been lying up for about a year and a half, but it started and ran nicely despite the light green covering on the bodywork. At £300 it's a no brainer, if it's past saving, it'll break into more. Picking it up tomorrow. Also servicing a Scénic and have to photograph and advertise the Neon and the godawful wheels on the Xedos 6. If I get time I'll post a few pics.

See, we have hardy cops around here, they make do with the bottom of the range, wheel trimless, Ford Focus

Looking forward to the pics Luke! I hope the S80 turns into a goer, surely it will, its a Volvo!

You have seen dealer prices for some Citroen parts I take it?... and they don't even come with a VW badge.
