Following a long bitter battle with the seller they managed to reject the car and get half of the money refunded. This car is a good lesson for anyone who thinks its safe to buy cars "sight unseen".
That's interesting, DickieG.

I rang this seller because I was in the area and it looks immaculate from the photos but he said he wasn't there.

What's he hiding then? PM me, please

I'm thinking of this one because I missed the one the OP bought.

What's wrong with the Forte though? Isn't it one of those, last "let's get our remaining stock sold, boys" limited editions with very little one. This one was on last week for £1350 Buy-It-Now.

As for OP, I spoke with WMC when I saw it relisted and he said he had sold it privately through his forecourt.

I was in Austria when it was first listed and it sold for £1800 first time around ending on 2nd January. Why did the winning bidder not take it any?

At the end of the day, you bought from a dealer. Prices are going to be higher.

Are you local to Nottingham then?

Fortes are bascilly an LX car... but useually with the 90bhp instead of the 110bhp, though there are a few 110bhp versions.

I really connot see a difference between a Forte and LX (other then 90bhp or 110bhp), mum having had both now....

Very rough justice for that previous buyer losing a grand too...

Andrew
I viewed that car back in November and described it in my blog at the bottom of the page. The buyer (a very nice OAP) lost £900 as that was all he could negotiate out of the seller who I shall politely describe as "not very helpful", my advice with that seller is buyer beware

  I've been re-reading this post to understand my lack of understanding, i've managed to work it out

Basically who knows what it'll go for, its only worth what someone is prepared to pay, just be prepared to not get your money back which is the usual form when it comes to buying a car even after such a short ownership experience. Also sellers who think that just because they've spent loads of money on a car they think the cars value automatically increases are clearly deluded

The best story i've got is a next door neighbour went out to a pug dealer, came back with a decent 2nd hand car, however he didn't take his girlfriend with him when he bought the car, she hated it som much that after 3wks it went back to the dealer to give back & they gave him £3.5k less than what he'd paid  I bet he never did that again.....

Thank you for all the replies - very much appreciated.

Cambelt was changed at 72,000 miles with receipts of work from Citroen.
Latest service was 78,000 miles. Car now on 80,230.

Hi, am not local to Nottingham, travelled up to get the car - made a bit of a day out of it with a nice pub lunch half way!

The car is now in Somerset - will be looking to sell in next couple of weeks as get company car then.

I am amazed by it's comfort & fuel economy - 760 miles on counter when I went to fill up last night... and it wasn't even in the red section of the fuel gauge.

I am thinking around the £1,700 mark with full Citroen history, cambelt 8,000 miles ago and Trafficmaster year subscription that I have just added.

(Only bought it to see what it was all about - it is fairly bizarre!... I would imagine quite antiquated now with the prevalence of Satnav)

I thought these were worth less than nothing.

I was just given a HDI 90 1999 with 96k because the trade in price was so low.

RichardW was referring to the other one which is for sale on Ebay which will need its cambelt doing and not your car.

Postings can get a little confusing when everyone chips in - that's why SwissSPEC got confused! DOH! #-o

My Hdi (90) cost £1600 in June 2009. One owner, FDSH including documented list of every bit of work done, 38000 miles. I didn't view before buying and it cost me £200 to fetch it from Doncaster. Plus another £200 to register it in France.

It has proved to be well worth it.

I've had a couple of inconsequential worries (I'm the sort to worry as soon as there is an unusual noise). New battery fitted yesterday. New tyres. New front calipers and pads.

21000 miles later, still brilliant.

I was looking for this model with low miles and good history.

There is always someone looking for what you've got - in my opinion you will sell ok at £1500 or so if you advertise properly and the ebay advert you show is good.

Many posts and opinions on a subject are always better than one or none
although I accept sometimes it can get confusing especially when posts
are made simultaneously and neither see's the other post until later!!

FWIW, nobody has ever said the car which is the subject of this thread
isn't a decent car - discussion is about it's value and original purchase
price. Rmunns' Xant at a similar value a year ago (I know it's a 90HDi)
had 30k on the clock, not 50k more.

Yes, everything is only ever worth what someone else is prepared to pay!

Hi Scott,
I was watching your car on Ebay before sale - although Citroen fans appreciate these cars, many others don't - so the values are usually on the low side.I felt it was too high at the £1650 auction end price.
Comments from other members on the fact that you paid a highish price are unfortunately rather accurate.
I have two Activa models & may well have one sold next week!! I might have an interest in your car as a daily driver,so keep me in mind if it doesn't sell - I would not be interested at anything near £1700 though - if it was the more desirable Exclusive model you MIGHT have had a chance at this price.

David.

Thank you for all the replies guys.

I'll be selling in the next couple of weeks.

I won't be placing a reserve on the auction - so will post the Ebay link on this forum when it's live.

Best wishes,

Scott
