Check that you have not accidentally disconnected something while tracing the original problem. For example the air temperature sensor on the air filter housing, or the MAP sensor.

If the Inlet Air Temperature sensor is disconnected, it won't stop the engine running. It logs a fault int he ECU but does not bring on the engine management light.

Good call on the MAP sensor though :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys :)
Thanks for the wiring diagrams Jim, I'll try make sense of them ;)

The car will revv fine for the 10 seconds its running, if I hold the revvs high, it will die drop a couple of thousand rpm, then come back to life for a second or so, before cutting out completely. But you can then immediately start it again.

I'm still wondering if its not a bad earth somewhere, is there other earthing connections I should check apart from those next to the battery?

I didn't disconnect much, just attacked the under bonnet fuse box, but the main fuses only, left the little ones, also all took the battery out and did all the earth connections to the side of that.

It's been a long time since the origional post, but good news.

The green goblin she is fixed!!! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

Finally had enough money to get her flat bed trucked over to B&l autos, who promptly fixed the problem, turns out it was 1 wire that corroded away, in the wiring loom which goes through the front bumper!

So after almost 3 months of sitting idle I can drive my v6 again :) \:D/

Many thanks to all those who contributed, and many thanks to Jim for coming over not once but twice to help. Even if we didn't crack it, your assistance was greatly appreciated.
Many thanks to B&L for fixing for a very reasonable price.
.
As you all can imagine I'm very happy that
GG can have many more years of driving and not have to be scrapped

I also can now recommend this guy flat bed car transporting service http://www.bluedotrecovery.co.uk/
Very nice chap

Excellent news Sid :D :D :D

We could never have fixed it in the position it was! We'd have never got the bumper off

Pleased the Green Goddess is operational again Mr. Squid :)

On that note I think it is about time someone put a recommendation for BL Autos in the "Recommended Garages & Services" forum.
They consistently receive enthusiastic praise from all who deal with them, never seen anything approaching a negative comment.

Much like Pleiades in this respect.

GREAT NEWS SID!

My problem with my dead V6 here is the distance away from BL Autos. :(

Still no joy here but I suspect a dead wire somewhere on mine as it
just never gets the signal needed to get the bloody body computer
to talk with the rest of the ECU's/injectors.

Sounds like the problem I had Andy, as Jim will testify the Engine ECU was totally incommunicado!
Apparently the wire is in the main loom which runs through the front bumper.
I'll try get more details at the weekend when I pick the car up.

Sadly not being a party to the repair means I don't have any first hand information.
