Took our Xm for an MOT today, its been stood for 7 weeks as I don't take it out in the salty winter roads. So i was a bit concerned about that, however ...

It passed its MOT with not one problem or advisory, which is pretty good going. :D

The Peugeot passed last weekend with the same results, things are going well!

I've been running them for 14 years so I think I must have had one or two failures, but our local chap is very good, I take it away and do the job, take it back and he gives me the ticket.

The 406 failed on a sticking caliper, n/s rear which I knew about and top suspension tie rod on o/s rear, I have all the bits and the MOT doesn't run out until the 25th, hopefully I will have it done long before then - providing it stops rainining. :(

Ah nothing major then, fairly simple repairs.

Yes, we have a similar relationship with our MOT place, i alternate between a few, one general and one Citroen indy. I prefer the indy as they know what they are looking out for, and if there is a problem id rather know about it!

Hapy New Year chaps.

And I'm pleased to be able to report a great start to 2012 with an MOT pass and a comment about what a good car I've got!

I remembered this thread from last year so wondered how Howie and others are getting on with MOT time - hope we can all share the joy. I tell you what though - the new MOT certificate is pathetic. I could knock one up in Excel and print it off - is this now universal?

Anyway its' what the paper brings that is important - not how it looks. Here's to another 12 months.

Mines in on Friday at 11, did oil and filter change and fuel filter today and gave the inside a quick vac due to the kids and Smarties and cake! May give it a quick wash too! Not that it makes the blindest difference to the outcome but makes me feel better about its chances! Haha!

Best of luck for tomorrow Timmo. I did same as you - and gave the inside a good clean and polish - no sign of kids stuff. I reckon it might make a bit of an impression on the examiner as he drives into the MOT bay.

We need to keep the Xants on the road - have you had a look at that web site - How many left (or something similar)?

Oh No! The Beast has failed!
Not too bad though considering,
The list as follows,
Offside rear outer (sill)seatbelt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded
Nearside registration plate lamp not working
Offside registration plate lamp not working
Nearside rear (rotaional) tyre not fitted in accordance with side wall instruction
Nearside outer front CV jointgaiter damaged to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt
Nearside front anti roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt
Offside front upper anti roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover excessively damaged so that it prevents the ingress of dirt.

And a couple of advisories too,
Centre front exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gasses
Front Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gasses
Nearside front lower suspension arm has slight play in ball joint
Centre stop lamp not working
Oil leak
Front brake discs nearling limit

Going to pop out in a mo and have a look around and see what bits are indicated so I know for myself, especially for the dust covers!!
Will get the tyre sorted as have a good mate with a wheel clinic and valeting centre, so that's fine, will have a look at the wires on the boot as had them open to do the rear light on the boot side last week, (that should be the brake light and the number plate lights,- are they both the same side or seperate??? )
Is it a new arb link or can you get the dust covers seperately?? Long shot but you never know!
Will go and look for the oil leak as the engines pretty dry, but did spill some oil from the filter on changing! Will have a look at the exhasut oveer the weekend too,
Is front sus ball joint seperate or like some of the older cars and one unit??
Have got till the 19th when the ticket officially runs out but will try not to use it till have it sorted!!
