Ok, just to finish this thread off:

The car is now to be scrapped, broken for parts or sold as spares or repair.
It is/was a 2001 2.2 HDi SX Estate. Everything apart from the engine is in good nick.

I have stripped the head off today (total nightmare) to get to the bottom of this issue only to find the no 4 piston has melted and damaged the bore and head. I have to put it down as an uneconomical repair - even though i spent £400 on getting the injectors repaired.

Someone told me on this forum that a rattly injector is not the end of the world as it is a HDi trait and many have left there cars alone - trust me, dont - get it sorted!!!

Sorry to hear that, after all your efforts :(

Every now and then we come to a point where we find the problem to be worse than we'd hoped. Hope your next car doesn't give you as much trouble

What do we think could cause the piston to melt on a diesel.

If it were a petrol then weak mixture can result in a hotter combustion. But, how would this apply to a diesel?
Cheers, Kev

Like i mentioned in an earlier post, one of the failed injectors was 1% under fueling whilst the other failed one was delivering 109% over!!.
I can only assume is has to be the latter.
I will try to post pics of the damage if you like - not pretty!!
When i said it sounded like 'pinking', sadly i was probably right.

Anyway, many thanks for the help and encouragement received from this board, hope i can find another Citroen!!!

I think Chris (Citroenmad) is selling his 2004 C5 VTR, knowing him it will be in excellent condition.

Looking at the thread it might have gone now, but worth sending him a message, heres the for sale thread.
