1. Also disconnect negative terminal first. If the spanner hits the body it won't weld itself to the body. For similar reason reconnect positive first and torque up the clamp, then reconnect negative last.
2. The alarm will go off in your face. It's very loud when your head is just above the battery.
Valid points.

My Varta was lovely this morning. Cranked up a dream in -6°C temperatures.

Last week, old battery would have taken 2, possibly 3, attempts.

Im hopeing mine arrives today or tomorrow. Even with my car in the garage last night it has barely started this morning. It is -6 outside, about 0 in the garage.

Think ill put it on charge tonight if i dont have my new battery today, as i need it early tomorrow.

I think it'll only be the weather preventing you from a 24 hr delivery. However, tayna do supply a tracking number so you should get a good indication from that when your battery should arrive. This was mine:
Please enter your consignment number:

Con Number Cust. References Delivered Date Time Delvd Items Recipient Comments Delivery Service Con Items
308865********
More Info (Secure) More Info (Open) 123456
24 Nov 2010 10:57 am 1 Mr Frenchcarnut Next Day 1
Of course my info is now a one-liner because the battery has been delivered, but the tracking link in your confirmation email will tell you where your consignment currently resides whilst in transit.

What's the snow situation like up there at the moment? Roads passable?

We have enough snow and ice and places not too far from here have between 10-14" of snow, but closer to here there is 6" at most and main roads are mainly clear, if still a bit icy and snowy. A lot of roads were closed this morning as we had more snow fall over night, but on the whole driving conditions are not too bad at the moment, so I think it will get here no problems.

Ive put a relatives address as I wasn't expecting to be at home today. So ill have to go collect it when it arrives.

Well, I guess that delivery van really needed a battery then. :P

Still no sign of it. Tracking info says it was back at the warehouse last night :? Probably couldn't get here due to the weather. Oh well, maybe today.

If it's back at the warehouse are they saying it's "back on the van"? If not, I wouldn't expect it today either. I suppose we have to give them some leeway.

Frustrating I know. I've ordered something from Amazon and its tardiness is being blamed on the weather. But I don't know how when my new telly is just down the M1 (unless its currently coming in from somewhere snowbound or just a diminishing number of available delivery vans).

No, its not saying back on the van, so i guess its not on its way today either.

I could really do with it now too, its supposed to be -10 tonight! Ill have to have my car on charge over night, so i know its going to go in the morning, as its very slow to turn over when left overnight now.

-10 or -12 here tonight too :?

I think all postal deliveries etc are stuck, certainly I've not seen a postman since Monday and I'm overdue a few things that were posted at the end of last week. To be fair its a bit of an ice rink around here.

Hopefully your battery will make an appearance either this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest. :)
Andy.

Looking at -6 to -8 for me. I don't hold out for the van battery much longer the way it's going and although new, it's a generic cheapie that has to run a few starting cycles each morning just to get the heaters going (And the glow plugs are fairly new).

I know there have been some road closures around here, but there are ways around them, im surprised if things have stopped so much that even post isnt getting through, main roads are still drivable.

Our C15 does like to eat a battery or two, even when it was in daily use, about two years would be its limit with a battery. Luckily its battery has a lift time guarantee, so we have had quite a few replacements now. It has a heavy duty after market alarm and remote central locking system, i think thats what drains it. Though since its standing most of the time now, we have the battery off and on a trickle charger.

I'm getting my normal post early evening this week. Between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Feels really weird to be sitting down to an evening meal and the postie drops by (and it is him cos I can see him motoring up the street posting to everyone else). Really bizarre!!
