Forget it! Website says 'yes' and takes money, computer says 'no', Sales emails 'no stock' and 'they will not be available for another 3 – 4 weeks'.

So I have asked for a full refund and once refunded, will order Varta from kenhall's recommendation.

I like the way they take your money first before checking stock levels.

<sigh>

At least car started okay this morning

Well, they had a pay by PayPal option so I used that to give me two levels of protection (i.e that and credit card).

Eventually got a Varta 5 yr warranty from here after more supply issues:

http://www.tayna.co.uk/E44-Varta-Silver ... P7726.html

Came in less than 24 hours from ordering, fitted this weekend and followed these instructions from wheeler.

The difference is really evident and I'm glad I did the deed in anticipation of the original battery dying.

Definitely the right spec in terms of size and terminal position. As for power specification, It's better than the original I had factory fitted on my 2004 Diesel, which I think was the L3D after comparing with the batteries specified on service.citroen.com if I've understood them correctly:
service.citroen.com wrote:L1D 50/420 - BATTERY L1 300 AND AGE >= 5
L2D 50/480 - BATTERY L2 400 AND AGE >= 5
L1D 50/420 - BATTERY L2 400 AND AGE >= 5
L3D 70/640 - BATTERY L3 450 AND AGE >= 5
L2D 60/540 - BATTERY L2 400 AND AGE >= 5
Tayna also have a car suitability and fitment guide (click here), and I also double checked by giving them a ring and asking them to reg check.

So for peace of mind, I would still do that.

How good is the C5 Battery meter? Mine has been slower to start twice in the past 5 days, but the meter before starting has always been higher than my old 2.2 was when starting fine.
It has been quite cold, and I know HDi will take longer to start below 0.

My car was stood out last night, it was very slow to start this morning, so thought it best to get one now.

That's how mine was going - the weekend before last being particularly bad (before this bad bout of weather even kicked in), and my fear centred around my wife being caught out. Even though we have recovery cover, I didn't want her stranded.

I hope it's good for you and good luck with the installation - certainly great for me.

A neighbour of mine has an Alfa-Romeo, only a few years old, and even his battery packed up over the weekend - no charging issues apparent either.

Im happy with the deal on the Varta battery, and the 5 year warranty is a bonus too. Slightly higher spec than my C5s battery, and Varta is the original equipment battery. It should be here within a few days.

Just got a great deal on a new pair of Michelin Primacy tyres today too, im doing well so far :D They should be here by the end of the week.

I just wish this assignment im sat doing would go as smoothly!

Yes, I went for this initially, but there was a parts supply problem. Same company as I trialled at the start of this thread (check the "about us" section of both buypartsby and carbatteriesonline and you see they have the same warehouses/stores i.e they are both part of the "autospares group" which links to http://www.suttonautofactors.co.uk/).

So I'm happy with the Varta and its spec for my C5 HDi.

Got a good deal Vredestein Sportrac 3 a 18 months ago. Still doing fine if a little worn on the edges at the fronts (must rotate). Great in the wet. Seemed okay in the snow last year (bt not the best). Original Michelins seemed a lot quieter and more comfortable though I have to say.

I changed the battery last year on my 607
followed the procedure as people said here
Window down
Key out
Bonnet up
wait 5 minutes
disconnect battery

what people haven't said
1. Also disconnect negative terminal first. If the spanner hits the body it won't weld itself to the body. For similar reason reconnect positive first and torque up the clamp, then reconnect negative last.
2. The alarm will go off in your face. It's very loud when your head is just above the battery.
