R16s and Peugeot 205/306/405 (etc) have trailing arms and the rear hand brake - however they don't sink to the bumpstops after being parked a while.

For "fun" reasons, I would like a rear handbrake on the Xantia too.

The rear brake circuit gets its pressure from the rear suspension circuit - thus making the rear brakes load sensitive and eliminating the need for the usual crude cut-off valve found on ordinary vehicles.

Compared with the master cylinder of a conventional servo-assisted brake system, the LHM reservoir is HUGE and there's a b****y great red STOP light on the dashboard that if you lose hydraulic pressure and there's still a pair of accumulators to provide a decent pressure reserve to enable you to stop. If you've ever tried to stop a conventional vehicle when the servo has failed...

Give me a Xantia any day - discs all round, a powered hydraulic system and if all else fails a really effective handbrake on the front discs.
