I suspect that this is probably close to the truth Rohdia actually own patents not just on the fluid but also on the complete exhaust DPF system.JohnD wrote:And you're probably right - after all you can buy 200grams of cerium oxide for less than 7 quid. But that's the chemical/pharmaceutical industry for you. They have a ten (sometimes 20) years protection on any new product they bring to the market place, so they can charge whatever they think the market will stand.Xac wrote: it probably doesn't cost £14 a litre to make.

Remember when Glaxo brought out Zantac. It was a prescription only drug, but if you got it on private prescription you would pay £19.95 for 30 tablets. Now you can buy a box of Tesco's Ranitidine tablets for around £1.25. Same formula - but Glaxo no longer have copyright.
So maybe in ten or so years time we'll see some of the smaller oil companies making their own versions of Eoylis.
How ever I do believe that something that mightily contributes to this is that it would appear that there is only one manufacturer of this stuff and they will only sell to one outlet i,e PSA.
Although he hasn't said I bet James gets his stuff from Citroen same as GSF. Citroen so GSF tell me is the sole source supplier at least in UK.
Now if that is the case what I would like to know is why havn't they gone to Citroens supplier and purchased directly from them if the supplier refused to supply them I believe that would be illegal under European fair trading / anti competition rules and therefore open the supplier to prosecution. The fact that Rohdia holds patents does not give them legal rights to "fix" the market.
