What price do you get if you set your voluntary excess to the value of the car, and add your father in law as a named driver?

Sam I'm also 24 and I've just renewed my insurance with Admiral for just under £500 fully comp.

What spec Xantia do you have? I have the 2 litre 16v Exclusive so unless you're driving the 3 litre v6 I can't understand how you've been quoted so much!!!!

Adding the posibility of a "better" driver behind the wheel some of the time reduces the likelihood of the car being involved in an accident, so try your FIL on the policy.
Similarly, if your voluntary excess is the same as the value of the car, if you dent the car you're not going to cost the insurance company anything, makes you a more attractive customer.

Makes no difference what you put, they will only pay you the current going rate at the time.

RIP off insurance quotes bah humbug.
Being an old git according to some 49 years young mine is at a modest £190 F/C.
About 3 years ago my insurance went from £189 for a 3.2 jag with 3 points (speeding) to £289,no way I was going to be ripped off by the brokers. So started searching around.Anyway got loads of phone calls saying "we can get you a better deal",they were all more expensive.Until one call came in and was quoted £169 still fully comp and wth the same insurer thank you very much i'll have that.
These might be worth a try.

When i was checking out insurance quotes a few months ago I though i'd check to see how much I would save by going down to TPF&T & found that with many companies FC was cheaper than TPF&T by a few quid. Was the same last year when i was getting quotes for my mum.

:o i can't understand why your insurance would be so much, its either gone up huge amounts in the past few months or somehting is not quite right.

About 2 months ago i paid £680 for my C5, im 23, 4 years NCB, no points or accidents. I thought that was quite reasonable. Adding my dad took the quote down by about £150.

All I can say and I'm sure Chris will agree, look at the small obscure insurance companies with poor advertising, you might be pleasantly surprised.
