The Michelins have a bold manufacturing date on the outside.
My spare says 4402, which is 44th week of 2002.

Well as for whoever thought I was going to get ripped off, I didn't! Actually the tyre has way over 3.0mm treads, don't know why the seller said it had 2.2!! No bulges, no rust on the wheel, no cracks at all, and it was made in 2007! It's now in the spare tyre well and the bald tyre has been sold for recycling for £8.55! Ahh, I love a good bargain. I'll tell you what happened with the check-over for the cooling system in another Thread as this one has came to the end I think!

Semantics, but I read you sold the old wheel and tyres!? :?

You can't get rid of old wheels with tyres for love nor money so you had
to pay for the recycling of the old wheel & tyre right?

Nope! My friend owns a garage and he recycles (re-treads) tyres and sells them. As for the 4 tyres that came from the car, they are now on a Peugeot 405 to my knowledge!

Ive never bought a part worn tyre, although if the tyre is checked well and the car it is to be fitted to does few miles then why not.

I alway slike to stick to high quality tyres, usually Michelins, Goodyears, Contis etc. I have Toyos on the front of my C5, first fitted them to the front, did 1000 miles then swapped to the rear for 3K miles. They have now been on the front for 4K miles and are looking pretty worn out. So 8K miles in total, some of that on the rear, ill be lucky to get 10-11K miles from them i think. The outer shoulders are really scrubbing off.

I might get some more Michelins to pair up with the rears, hopefully they will wear better.

Well one tyre I would never buy is BFGoodrich! My mum's 1998 Rover 216 SLi has one of those, it has 6.0mm treads, and if only just over 2 years old, and failed the MOT on serious cracking and cords being exposed, and they are not lying! The tyre is a right mess! 6.0mm treads and only fit for the bin... :(

Check the date code, it may have been old stock. If it is really only 2(ish) years old, you have a fairly good chance of getting a replacement on manufactuers warranty.

There is no receipt with the tyre and my mum just bought the car so it wouldn't be under her name anyway. How do I check a date code?

Just chucked a pair of Khumos on the tail end, £124 all in. (205/65/15).
Tyrespot Team Valley (who have a machine that balances Citroen wheels).

Can't say if they are any good yet as I have only driven four miles on them and the car was full of IKEA furniture (again! #2 son has decided to turn his room into a somewhat habitable area for a change).

With no receipt and a recent purchase of the car how can you be sure the tyre is only 2 years old? With cords being exposed have you had the cars alignment checked?

Steve, that seems like a good price, i sometimes wish my C5 had the smaller wheels now, as £124 might just get me one premium branded tyre. Kumhos tend to be good tyres, ive had them in the past and been impressed.

Tyrespot Team Valley, i assume thats near the Team Valley retail park somewhere?

No, top end near the Wagon Train.
Mate at work had some on his Bora and they have lasted well, he went to get a price from one near work (Birtley) for his dad's recently acquired Audi TT and asked for me if they could balance Citroen wheels. They couldn't but said the Team Valley depot could.

Never been attracted to Tyrespot but couldn't fault them especially as it was uncomfortably close to closing time when we got away from IKEA and wormed our way down to them at walking pace. They did have a very poor reputation but appear to have risen above it.

Ive found a place in Stockton/Yarm which should be able to balance my wheels. Ill have to go one day when i have time and get the rears rebalanced again. 3 month old Michelins which have been balanced 3 times by the same place without decent results. My fronts are ok now.

Oddly enough, i got the michelins for the Xm there a few months back and they are balanced perfectly. Seems to be somehting with C5 wheels.

Which Kumhos? They'll have a K-code on the side (can be large or small) like KH33 or KY69...

KH17 (from the receipt, nowhere near the car at the moment)

My son has the same ones on his 306 and declares himself pleased with them.

I know they are two years old as the pervious owner told us she had it changed for the MOT in 2008.
