EGR valve and fast idle.
Beside the lhm resevoir there's two electrovalves.
Strange, I thought the fast idle was governed by that wax-stat thing in the thermostat housing? The EGR valve though is fair enough, I'd forgotten about that!

Early ones were wax stat, later ones have it at the back of the pump controlled by the vacuum, default is fast idle, with vacuum applied it drops the idle to around 800rpm.
Of course being citroens I wouldn't be suprised if some younger ones were sometimes fitted with wax stats! :D

Well, funnily enough I have a late R reg '97 s1, which doesn't have the engine management light on the dash, and I'm sure it has the wax-stat.

Maybe when they gave it the engine management light they gave it the vacuum controlled idle too?

To be honest I don't know what it looks like, so I don't think so. I'm sure I would have noticed it. As it is, it looks very similar to my 306 which doesnt have any electricity in it

You've got me wanting pictures now :D

Do you have a keypad?
How about an ECU box by the a/c dryer?

I do have a keypad yes, and the car won't start without the code, so it is connected to the fuel pump somewhere along the line :P

Not sure on the ECU by the AC dryer, purely because it's a hydractive car so if there's an ECU there it could be for the suspension..?

True, and I have a feeling someone mentioned keypads were added to diesels before the semi-electronic pumps were fitted.
Strange how yours is a late S1 with it.

I've just checked on servicebox - my '97 1.9td Xant doesnt have an EGR system, I didn't think it did but it didn't seem right so I didn't mention it.

That would explain why there is no vacuum pump, I'll take a photo later on if I remember.
