Hi Shaun,

Your xantia will be the exact same pump has mine the semi electronic version of the Bosch. Pump No 0 460 494 455.

I would get your pump checked by lexia and don't remove it until that is done. I have problem with the running of the old girl at the moment which is either an injector problem or a sensor problem which seems to be getting slightly worse.

As Mike has already mention check the various threads mention including my fun with the pump.

Sorry,

I'm a bit late to this thread.

Yes, as you say Kenny, a proper Lexia session is needed and by someone who understands properly.

A commonly recorded fault relates to the timing device being unable to correctly set the timing. This is almost always caused by a plugged fuel filter so if you've not changed you filter in a while, do so!

The lift sensor on No.3 injector is easy to check. Simply disconnect it and if the engine note changes, all is working OK.

A Lexia session will enable you to watch that the pump is correctly responding to timing commands. If it cannot it will throw a fault.

I reiterate, it's no good going for a Lexia session to anyone. It must be someone who understands diesel injection and can interpret properly what the machine is reporting. It's a tall order nowadays, sadly. You might try those of us on the forum who have lexia equipment.

Cheers guys much appreciated, I am hoping its not the big ends, I think I will be booking it in with my local Diesel/Bosch specialists they have full diagnosis equipment.

As said I've disconnected the injector sensor, no change, but when I disconnect crank sensor the noise increase ten fold!

Cheers again,

Sounds like the needle lift sensor then if the note doesn't change when you disconnect that.

The engine note doesnt change when I disconnect the injector sensor with the crank sensor still connected but if I reconnect the injector sensor, then disconnect the crank sensor, then re-disconnect the injector sensor the pump I assume goes to full advance and the noise is horrific.

This only happens with both disconnected, if I leave injector sensor connected and disconnect crank nothing happens.

Im praying it is a sensor, draining the oil tonight to check for bearing remnants.

Any idea where I get a needle sensor from and how much?

Cheers,

Shaun

To my knowledge it's complete with a replacement injector.

Shaun,

It is a complete replacement injector and sensor. I have also replied on your other thread.

Update:

Right with my multi-meter in hand I get 12v at the end of the injector sensor connector from the ECU and at the fuel pump/cold start solenoid connector from the ECU, but the connector at the crank sensor end I am only getting 2.5v. Tried it with engine on, engine off and injector sensor connected/disconnected, but still only 2.5v at the cranks sensor end from the ECU????

Is this the ECU being in a locked state and needing reset with a Lexia?

Also today I managed to get a 12v feed from the battery onto the cold start solenoid and SUCCESS the engine ran fine with no noise, so this proves the cold start solenoid is working and at least I can get it into full retard!

I will contact my local lexia holder and see what we can do.

So can anyone confirm that the ECU does need resetting?

Cheers all much appreciated!

Today I learnt that the coolant temperature sensor could be causing my problem, I've tried disconnected it but it didnt do anything.

Continuity is fine back to the ECU and I am getting 5v at the connector end.

But I take it to really see if its not working is too just replace it?

A friend at work has a full diagnostics system on his laptop so hopefully sometime this week I will get to the bottom of this!!

Cheers all again for your help,

Shaun......
