Are modern dervs rubbish?

Am I the only one who doesn't like quiet engines?
I love the roar of the XUD, it's actually something I consider good about the activa.
Normally in petrols I get in, start the car, then because I can't hear the damn engine I try and start it again.

Xac, for a quiet bit raspily nice engine i would reccomend to anyone to go test drive a swift sport

I have long thought about buying a used backbox, they do appear sometimes on fleabay, and pulling the inards out of it for an even nicer sound on Rachels car

The 2.7 HDi V6 in our C6 is very nice...but the downside would be the fuel consumption as it's not the best. Good power too from the twin turbo's and when sport mode is engaged it goes very well!!

Our mate couldn't believe the power as he's only used to his BX TXD with relatively low miles of 245,000 !!!

Now a 2.7 V6 HDi was never going to be great on fuel! Going by owners comments low to mid 30s are average, which is what you would expect from such a thing.

Why not get the 3.0 v6 HDi then, its more fuel efficient you know

After my team leader refering to Juliet as a "jalopy" and commenting on the smell (which is strange as she's petrol and it's Cassy that runs on veg) he mentioned about looking into the car allowance rules, so I thought I'd have a quick gander at leasing deals.
The only citroen I'd be interested in these days would be the 3.0V6 HDi estate, but it's well over the allowance they give us.

I must disagree with you there. My last company car was a 2008 Focus 1.8TDCi which had unbelievable torque even before the turbo kicked in and over the 18 month 50k mls I had it averaged over 52mpg and would do over 60mpg on a really good run (and rarely under 50mpg). I would agree however that the more common 1.6 is probably a little underpowered. I used to have a 1995 non-turbo 1.6D escort estate and that really was like driving a milk float!

My old 306 1.9TDi was also really torquey but I find my current 2.0HDI a bit sluggish but it manages about 48 mpg.

From what I've read elswhere the future of cars is diesel, latest technology, particularly with bio fuels knocks spots off petrols in terms of performance, reliability, lifespan, efficiency, economy and inviromental impact. So until we all get a flying delorean that runs off of vegetable peelings, we will shortly find ourselves in either a diesel, electric or hybrid.

I say yes. But that's only because these new developments are in their infancy and it'll take some time for the inadequacies to filter back to the designers for revision.

As diesel R&D is lagging several decades behind that of the petrol engine, I see a great future for the diesel engine. I expect power output to far exceed that of petrol engines and become the sports engine of choice.

Just a quick update on he van, if anyone is interested, it wasnt the head gasket as i thought, its the head itself and its riddled with cracks all around the valve seats in almost every cylinder........................seems she has had a hard life one owner or not.
Should have it back next week anyway and with a working radio too
