No point in bothering with cheap tyres in my opinion, its often a false economy.
My C5 uses 215/55 16 tyres with a speed rating of W just to make them extra expensive, the best price I could find on Michelin tyres for it was £120 a tyre.
My C5 VTR uses the exact same size as yours. I got 215.55.16W Michelins for £266 the pair, so you did better than me on price!
I decided that was too expensive and went for Uniroyal Rain Sport IIs instead.

I was thinking about those actually, they get good reviews.

What do you think to them?

I mainly went with Michelins because they are what should be fitted and also they offer a better ride, especially over ridges. Though this works against them if pressing on too hard around bends. Grip i find is very good and they are a nice quiet tyre. Im happy with them.

I only have one pair of Michelins at the moment on the C5, the other pair are Toyo T1-Rs, which are excellent tyres, very grippy in all conditions. They do wear a bit fast though.

I used to work at Dunlop in Erdington. I very often used to see tyres being made for Goodyear and Avon Tyres as well as many of the cheaper brands.. absolutely nothing wrong with them, they were just using the older technology on them such as the discontinued Dunlop tread design. The sidewall plates are removeable on the tyre mould and they just replaced them with a Goodyear or Avon sidewall plate. Dunlop had extensive development facilities and were non too clever in keeping advances in design and rubber compound mixes to themselves. The only real 'competitor' to Dunlop was Michelin!

I had Uniroyal Rallye 550's on the Xantia, they were the only tyre I've had which didn't seem to lose grip when it rained. Before them, I'd had Michelin, Continental and some no-name cheap tyres and they really did perform much better in the wet.

The Goodrichs are are now one of michelins more budget type tyre.used to be a premium usa brand. they are normally ok.
Uniroyal 550's are very good abit soft if you're heavy on the cornering but stick like **** to a blanket in the wet and very responsive.
used lots of them. using the 580xl's on the back atmo work well bit tramliney on front as stiffer sidewalls but great tyre on front or back.
Firestone TZ2000 im using are very good even in the wet and lasting well.

The Uniroyal rainsports are great tyres check the reveues on the.
black circles are a good site to check.

Bear in mind though that tyres are different in other sizes.ie 185.65.14
will be diff to say a 215.45.17.in layup etc so you will get tyre/ride? Which is why i always try to see what tyres like in the profile/size i'm looking for.
A good shop if you're down that way is Market tyres in southend essex they do all the taxi's down there so get some great prices on tyres. 01702808914

I managed to get the Uniroyal 550s to last 36k miles on the Xantia, rotating the tyres front to rear helped. Both Xantias I had seemed to wear the shoulders (both inner and outer shoulders) off the tyres, might have been my driving style or the car but still the set of 4 did 36k miles.

Sounds more like tyre pressure if they are wearing on both inside and outside edges. Or fast cornering i find does do the same.
