Chris,

When looking for a replacement C5, hold out for a 2.2 twin turbo. Rare, but so worth it.

The 2.2's fuel economy is better than the 2.0 8v in the real world (statistically speaking I've not tested a representative sample, but this car is more economical than the last one!)

As you drive a 2.0 16v as well, don't get a 1.6.
Currently driving a 2004 C5 VTR (old shape) and an Electric Kia Soul. Sorry but the electric one is my favourite!
Formerly Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6, 2 x Kia Optima, 2 x C5, Xsara and Saxo.

A 2.2 like yours would be very nice, i agree, however i think for now i need something a little more insurance friendly.

The 2.0 8v isnt as good on fuel as the 2.0 16v, not quite anyway, its much easier to get better economy with the 16v, maybe because it doesnt need working as much and is higher geared.

Id like to try a 1.6, ive heard mixed report about how they perform, mainly good. I think they are pretty reliable, its just the power. Its the same power and similar torque as the 8v, though it would be interesting to see how it drives compared to both the 2.0 versions.

Ive driven a couple of 110 1.6HDi C4s which were nice, good performance in the C4, though C5s extra weight will be a big factor. Im also looking at C4s but think id prefer a C5.

Will have to see, just a thought for now. I still like the 8v, tried and tested unit which ive come to trust.

You're in the north east, I'm in the north west. If only there was some way we could use that?

It would certainly be nice to try a 1.6 C5, as thats the model i had asumed i would progress to. Its still a thought for the time being, might be a good few months before i change mine.

Its not easy finding C5s in local garages, or i would have tried one already.

Where abouts in the north west are you? Im in hartlepool.

2.0 16V HDi would be nice, there is quite a difference in insurance between the two and 2.0s are a little harder to find.

I am in Cockermouth.
I had to check autotrader every day and grab one. I missed a vtx+ because I dithered for a day or two. Had to go to Yeoville to pick it up.
