C5 Temp Warning

Unread post by amjake »

Hi All

Each morning for past week on switching ignition on the

STOP comes on, Temp gauge goes up to red, and console binnacle reads "Engine Coolant Temperature Too High" and beeps 3 times

all before firing ignition up.

All clears on start up but beeps three times and then temp gauge drops down into the blue.

Suggestions to rectify please? Have changed thermostat on recent full service 2000 miles ago

Cheers

Hi,

Sounds like the temperature sensor is faulty.

Had a similar problem and changing the sensor fixed it.

We had these symptoms on the Xsara. Changing the sender in the end of the cylinder head cured it.

you probably disturbed it when you changed the thermostat. It may need replacing or could simply be a dodgy connection. I'd check the connections before replacing it.

I had this with my 2.0HDi 206, it was the temperature sensor in the side of the engine block.

Thanks all for the replies.

Checked connections all looked fine and as I'd purchased the sensor and 'O' ring I replaced it.

Lo and Behold no alarm, car warms quicker and hotter!

Cheers

Temperature senders seem to cause problems, other than those which you might expect, when they go wrong.

A few years ago I was ready to change the single point injection unit in my daughter's VW Polo 1.3 because it was overfuelling. I was told that the temp sender quite often goes wrong and so replaced it. Result - engine ran perfectly.
