Hi Jim,

There's voltage at all of the points you mentioned.

The only place I can't get voltage is at pin 4 on the blower plug.

It must be a high resistance break as there is continuity but no voltage.

Having a day off from it today and tomorrow to go down to Grimsby and collect my latest addition to the Citroen family, the C6.

Next he'll be wanting Koni Yellow lowering spheres for that C6.

My 306 has yellow Koni shocks :oops:

Not to lower it though, just because they were cheap and adjustable so I can make them nice and squishy but controllable at the same time - the shocks that were on it before were probably the originals and enjoyed bouncing about over undulating roads... Quite worrying!

Well now the C6 is home I started to look at the Xantia again.

I took a piece of wire and joined the feed on fuse 5 to pin 2 I think it was on the relay, started the car and the blower started working without any problems.

All I need to do is drop the fusebox and replace the wire that goes in between.

Thankfully the end is nigh!

Thanks for all the help, and Jim, thanks for giving me a link to those wiring diagrams, they've been a life saver!

Is there a knack to dropping the fuse box?

I've tried pulling that red tag by hand and it moved a little but the fuse box was still solid.

I tried with a pair of pliers gently and it moved the same amount as it did by hand.

I don't want to pull to hard incase I break the thing!

Hi David,

The fuse box is dropped down by first pulling down the red key and then pull it towards the steering wheel and it will drop down.

This gets more confusing.

I've taken the fuse box out and when measuring between the fuse holder and the multi plug pins on the back there's a resistance of 35 ohms.

That kinda makes me think there's a dry solder joint in the fuse box.

Rang our local scrappy and he said he had one for a tenner, went down and realised it was a Xsara not a Xantia.

OK....

I removed the crimp connector from the multi-plug on the fuse box and the relay, replaced the piece of wire, soldered it into the crimp connectors and reassembled it.

I'm now getting connectivity between the fuse and the relay.

There is now a solid 14.4v at the fan motor.

When the car is started there is a jerk through the fan motor but nothing else.

When the engine is running, if I turn the key towards the start position but not enough to engage the starter the relay clicks but there's no movement on the fan.

On the orange cable (thin one) going into the fan multi-plug there is less then 0.1 of a volt.

Help! I am completely stumped by this now. I would of put money on the broken wire fixing the problem when it was replaced.

That will be your problem then, if I remember correctly there should be around 3 volts on this wire, its the control signal from heater panel, if you connect it to 12 v the fan should run, sounds as though the fault is in the control panel
