That's a bloody shame Toby  Their loss... Like you Colin, I had everything crossed for you to get that job.

Keep at it, you'll crack it soon enough and more than likely it'll turn out a better one and then you'll be glad you did not get the Fawley job..

That's life and it goes about things in a seemingly odd way at times.. Some call it fate...

Thanks all. Is a shame but I will keep looking...

Unfortunately, more bad news though.

I wanted to get the Activa insured so I could start driving it again. However, on looking around I just cannot afford it. Insurance of nearly £1000 cannot be justified especially as I'm paying for the Coupe's already. Yes, I'm young and have an accident against my name, but even so I feel that insurance is just getting silly now.

I feel backed into a corner and now think I have no option but to let the Activa go  It's stood outside, not being used and I can't see me being able to for a long time yet...

£1000 is very bad!

try using a company called HIC :)

they always proved good with my 20v turbo and fast renaults when i was 18-24 :)

My insurance for mine is around £400 a year with limited miles and also i have 6ppoints for IN10 as well :( but they come off this year so can't wait to see by how much it actually affects my premium after my birthday :)

Have you tried Admiral Toby?

Cost me a somewhat unbelievable £68 to insure the silver machine...

I agree that it's getting plain daft now. Insurance is perhaps the biggest outlay in running a car. It makes road tax look like a bragain...

Still, perhaps now Richard Hammond is transport minister, things like this will be looked into and resolved.

Well cheapest I've found is £749, thats basic FC cover with no Legal Services which I'm debating on if I really need it. If I do its an extra £25.

I might book the Coupe in early for it's MOT (it's due June 3rd) and see what it might need. I have a suspicion its going to fail. If it does I may transfer insurance over to the Activa. I don't know if thats the best plan though. It also means I'm back to square one. One car, not being able to drive Coupe.

So you have offroad space to keep one car?
Would it be possible to have a car rotation every few months?

I've always debated on having a second car whether it would be offroad until I could afford to use it or run alongside the current. I think the real underlying reason I won't, is basically down to a feeling of betrayal of the White Xantia. Its never unexpectedly let me down and I feel that if I did have another it would kick up a fuss!
All very silly really

So Toby,

All this insurance shenanigans, does that mean the Activa cambelt job is off then?

I took a stack of photos and a lot of mental notes when I did mine at the weekend ready to do a web article on it...

It is a nice easy one but I forgot how fiddly some parts are due to poor access. There are detail differences between doing an aircon and non-aircon versions too. The non-aircon engine has a lovely auxiliary belt tensioner...

I've tried everything. Cheapest is £750. Considering it would only get used at weekends and the occasional rally I think I may forgo the legal cover.

Anyway, the Coupe is going for an early MOT tomorrow. If it fails, I will transfer cover to the Activa. I have a horrible feeling it is going to fail spectacularly.

I can then start sorting it while driving the Activa.
