Unusual colour your BX, little on the dusty side

Is that a Megane Coupe? Tidy looking cars those, had a drive of one once, wasnt bad. I was surprised to see its not actually a hatchback, it looks like one.

Is the Mk1 BX yours too?

Yes it was a little on the dusty side, but didn't clean up bad at all,
The mk1 belongs to the same bloke that put mine in there, i think i remember him saying he was going to scrap them,
He's a old mate of the bloke i worked for there , no one see's him from one month to the next.
The Megane is a coupe, and a great car , just had the gearbox replaced, with one i sorced on line, with no warrantee, and guess what it's doing the same thing from 1st to 2nd, but apart from that it's exeptional condition,

No doubt you have checked, but does it have the correct fluid type in the gearbox? The one i drove was a manual 1.6, pretty good car actually i liked it, manual box was a bit slopy but it was high mileage.

Yes it was supposed to be changed in the change over, and it looks clean

I'm wondering if they my have over filled it  , there is no gearbox dipstick on the AD4 gearbox, and i do know from my mothers experiance with her's that the only way they said for it to be properly checked is for Renault to connect it up to there system for 2 hours at a cost of £195.00 +vat

I don't think so :) :)

But it is a great little car, just to small for her 'n' the kids, i bought it with out her knowing

Big Mistake

If its the wrong type of oil it can have that effect too, as well as it being too full. I think Xms are the same too, they need a certain type of gearoil or the changes can become slured.

Good luck with its sale :)

This is the problem my XM has. So, as has been pointed out to me, it could be someone's put HP80 in instead of the specified PSA BV Fluide (?) I will do a change asap next month: can anyone definitively tell me what I have to put in?

The Xm needs Dexron II gearbox oil. Its important that its up to the level on the gear dipstick and checked when warm.

Taken from the xm forum: "The engine must be running and then cycle through all the gears and back to park. Leave the engine running and then pull the dipstick, clean it, then dip it again and check it."

When cleaning make sure the filter is clean, if not give it a clean.

Whats your Xms box doing? Sluring all gears or just some. 3rd to 4th is often the one which slurs.
