This XM forum topic indicates that that ebay seller is (or is associated with) PD Gough. http://www.club-xm.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... ilit=gough" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But I see you contributed to that topic so should already know that...

I had forgotten all about that thread! Thanks.

Maybe I won't give them a call in that case. There's a local place that have quoted between £4-500. It comes with a lifetime warranty and no annual inspections required for the warranty so think I'll go down that route. Told them on the phone I want it whisper quiet with no restriction to air flow and they seemed confident they could help.

David is that for custom stainless steel from the CAT back ?

Let me know how that goes and what it ends up costing because they may be an option to fix my exhaust later (in a way that will last) depending on how bad it gets...

Well not much has happened this summer really. The XM had an outing to Shifnal when we were visiting the XM gathering at RAF Cosford. The Activa is still running like a dream with it's V6 under the bonnet.

Two weeks ago I added another French V6 to my collection. I rehomed an XM from a fellow owner in Crail. The car has a hydraulic leak from somewhere at the front, I think it's the electrovalve after speaking to Paul this evening. The suspension is very hard on it, but the engine and gearbox run perfectly.

This car has an interesting history, the previous owner on the logbook was Robert from BL Auto's, and the owner before him was Shaun. :)

Anyway, I've not touched the car since getting it home two weeks ago as I've been working in Aberdeen for the last 10 days. I took it out for a quick run today and grabbed some snaps...

Other then needing a damn good clean and the LHM leak sorting out the car runs very well. At 176k it's covered a big mileage, but the service history with it is huge. It's also got a stainless steel exhaust fitted from the cat back. For less then the cost of two tanks of petrol in the XM, it was a cheap car.

That looks a nice XM David...

is there any gearbox history? 176K is a lot for an original 'box (nothing for the engine of course!) so fingers crossed it's already been sorted. If not, I'll be happy to rebuild it for you if it goes pop in your ownership... Just pop it out of the car first though :wink:

What's your long-term plans for it?

Regretfully I have to say sorry Paul :( I know nothing at all about the AL4. The only 'box I know just a little about is the HP20. All others I know less than nothing at all :( A bit like cars really. I know a little about Xantias but all others are a complete mystery...

Anyway, I believe what yours needs can be done in-situ...

Shaun has told me he believes it has had a new gearbox fitted to it. It certainly changes gear beautifully. Long term plans I'm unsure of as it was sort of sprung on me to be honest. Once I've fixed the LHM leak I'm going to start running it over winter and see how she performs. She can split the load with the Range Rover as it'll certainly be a bit cheaper to run!

It's not worth putting LPG on it I don't think.

With the mileage it's already done and looking at the advisories on the last MOT I'm not sure it's going to go through it's next MOT.
