I came across this complaint to DVLA by an individual:
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ ... _suppliers

To be honest, you are not going to have an issue as long as the font, colour, background, spacing and reflectivity is compliant with an approved flag.

I’m personally just not going to send original copies of documents to anybody as I don’t believe there are sufficient DP safeguards by these firms for the storage and security of these types of personal documents that they are required to keep.

I like this from your link. :-D

Dear Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency,
Could you please confirm why are illegal number plates suppliers are still advertising and selling thousands of plates as "Show Number Plates" and nothing has been done for years ? Enclosed a list of a few companies that are breach of the law and still getting away with it. Are DVLA and Police not interested on sorting this out ? you mentioned online that managed to persecute a few suppliers which I can see after a very short time of research that the same company reopened under another name with a very similar site hosted elsewhere ..
What are you going to do with this all other illegal number plate suppliers who are still making tones of money … ???

Well, the plan to simplify things is well underway...

The CX is enjoying life in Somerset, our 407 Coupé is currently waiting to board the boat to Australia, one of my Range Rover's is going to soon be heading to Mid-Wales and as of tonight, our C5 is going to be looking for a new home too!

Since I bought the XFR in June, I've not set foot in the C5, it's been doing Cheryl's daily commute and if we've been going out when we're not at work we've been taking my car. The 3.0 HDi is overkill for Cheryl, she likes a nice car but is in no way a Petrol Head and she asked if I'd thought about getting rid of the C5 as she wanted something smaller to commute in.

She loved her old 207 HDi GT and I sold that without telling her when I bought the C5 and then when I bought the 407 Coupe I took the C5 off her and let her use the 407 so I could hardly say no when she asked if she could have something of her choice again.

I found a 207 HDi on Gumtree in Glasgow so went to see it this evening. It's a 1.6 HDi and seems to run and drive very well, it's a bit smokey under hard acceleration but it's black diesel smoke and the last owner was elderly so I'm hoping some injector cleaner and a thrash will sort that out.

Plan is to fit cruise control which is a 10 minute job, fit leather and then when the tyres need changing I'll stick some alloys on it for her. Other then that it's a really nice little car.

Excellent! I've seen your old CX David... I love it :D

You won't go wrong with a 207... I have a lot of time for them...

Thanks Jim, I'm glad it's gone to Alasdair as it'll be well looked after.

We were both very fond of Cheryl's 207 and we only sold it as I fancied the 3.0 HDI C5, hopefully this one will be as good as her last one!

Well, I started doing a couple of small jobs to the 207 and my hatred of bodges and things that aren't right.

There was an oil leak that was caking everything in much and crap and I think it's coming from the rocker cover gasket. I did a bit of investigating today and found a sheered bolt on the rocker cover. Unfortunately it's also one of the bolts that holds the inlet manifold down.

I think I'm going to draw around the rocker cover on a very thing piece of sheet steel and bolt it down where the rocker cover sits and then I can attack it properly with some degreaser and cleaner. I hate things being that dirty. I'll then take the inlet manifold off and get that snapped stud out.

I've ordered the o-rings that go under the inlet manifold, a rocker cover gasket, and I've also ordered all of the injector seals.

I've been reading on the internet that the torque for the injectors is 4NM and then 65 degrees which suggests that they're stretch bolts. I think I'm going to replace the studs that stick out of the head to secure the injectors to. Has anyone changed these before?

4NM ? Is that a little more or a little less than finger tight ?

4NM isn't much at all but I presume the 65 degrees after that must make it nipped enough? I guess it still won't be much though.

Evening gents,

Not sure where to post this as it's Citroen and Peugeot related so I went for here :)

I'm doing a few jobs on the 207 HDi at the moment and have stripped the rocker cover, inlet manifold and injectors off the engine. There was an oil leak from the rocker cover caused by a sheered bolt, unfortunately it was one of the bolts that goes through the inlet manifold too so I've got it all stripped and managed to get the snapped bolt out.

I've read about the injector studs being stretch bolts too so I've removed all of those too. Thankfully none of them sheered which was really worrying me. There's little inverted torx heads on the studs to remove them, all bar 2 of them undid with the right socket, 2 of them needed mole grips to undo them but they all came out perfectly.

Everything was absolutely filthy due to the oil leak which looks like it's been leaking for an awful long time...

I've been sat tonight with a tin of degreaser and a paint brush to clean everything off and it looks a lot better then it did before.

I'm absolutely amazed at how disgusting modern diesels get with all this EGR crap that's bolted onto them... The inlet ports on the manifold and on the engine were probably 1/3 - 1/2 the size they originally were with carbon stuck solid to them. I scraped it all off the manifold and blew it out with the airline, I then got the industrial hoover and held it above each port on the engine as I scraped it out of there too. I then blew down each cylinder with the airline to clear them too.

The injectors in the 2 cylinders around the gearbox were covered in thick oil for the entire length of the shaft so I'm glad I'm sorting this leak once and for all. Interestingly, all 4 of the back injector clamps were loose so I'm glad I'm replacing all of the bolts and studs to get everything torqued down properly. I also noticed that on the bottom of one of the injectors was 2 copper washers which really narked me.

I'm glad I'm giving it a going over as I'm hoping now that it's going to be reliable and sorted once it's finished.

I just need to find torque values from somewhere to put it all back together now :)

A long-term oil leak in a new-ish car points to very poor routine servicing... You'd have thought the people doing the servicing would have alerted the previous owner to this problem...

Maybe they did and the cost of rectification was just too great... Does the car have a recognised service history David?

I find it quite amazing that this problem should still remain in a modern engine... Expected in an XUD but in a modern HDi it's really quite unforgivable...

A filthy Peugeot  looking at the modern egr and your photos are the rear holes and middle holes next to the injectors linked by the intake manifold with some 'egr trickery' inside the manifold :?:

I assume this is why the modern engine benefits from a TerraClean type of service at least your way you get to see the result of an intake de-coke  David
