Xsara VTS engine sounds like a potentially good idea and likely easier than a 2.1TD ;)

The smaller petrol engines are bloody marvellous...

Re: All Things V6 & a Turbo!

These long dark, cold evenings are really getting me bored. Cheryl bought me a book for Christmas by Ben Fogle called "Land Rover, the story of the car that conquered the world".

By the time I'd gotten to the end of the first chapter I'd decided I wanted to buy a Defender. However, after reading the reviews and browsing the forums I don't think I'd fit in a modern one and I don't really want a project one so I've shelved that idea for now.

Just before Christmas I was told I was going on a training course in Peterborough for a few days next week so I booked the C5 into BL Auto's. It needs a service by a VAT registered garage for the warranty to stay active, and as its developed a couple of little clunks I want it looked at by a garage I trust.

My course starts on Tuesday morning so I was planning to travel down to Welwyn Garden City on Sunday, drop the car off at BL early on Monday and then make my way to Peterborough for my course and then head back to WGC on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

Seeing as it took Citroen Glasgow 6 weeks to replace the suspension pump and rear EGR valve I've decided I'd rather support a small business even if it means travelling then subsidising an incompetent dealership.

When we get the 407 I moved the tuning box from the C5 to the 407 and it ran great for 3 months. I went to move it one day on the driveway and it seemed to crank for longer then normal. It then flagged the EML. Diagbox showed a fault on the fuel pressure sensor. I unplugged the tuning box and it's been fine for the last 8 weeks and 2000 miles.

When I took it off the 407 I put it back on the C5 and it was fine for a while. Then when we were away for the weekend I noticed there was a flat spot at about 1800 - 2000rpm. When sitting in a carpark the revs seemed to stop at 1800 and if you pressed the accelerator a bit more they'd shoot past 2000rpm and it would smoke quite badly. I took the tuning box off this when we were in Berwick Upon Tweed that weekend which was 6th November and it's been fine since too.

I can only conclude that the something inside the tuning box has failed and is causing problems on both cars. Thankfully, both cars are running perfectly without the tuning box connected.

Anyway, I'm toying with the idea of contacting either Angel Tuning in Banbury or Elite Remaps in Leeds on the way back from BL Auto's as they've both got a great reputation on C6 Owners and I do miss the extra midrange torque that's been lost since the tuning box was removed. If I can get a deal to do both cars I might even head down in the 407 in a couple of weeks.

I keep exercising the suspension on the CX and letting it warm through and get up to temperature on the driveway. Once the winter has passed and Spring has arrived I'm going to take it in to get the welding sorted as I'm sick and tired of waiting for the local guy. Hopefully by mid spring she'll be MOT'd and on the road!

David, if you pass near my place then do call in...

Shame about the tuning box... Be interested to know if it is amenable to being repaired at all...

We definitely can Alasdair, that would be exceptionally good :)

Speaking of which, I need to speak to you about the Haynes Breakfast club... I still intend to attend a few of those this year and combine it with a bike ride around West Country parts...

Jim, you could always head of to Dunedin, New Zealand, and take a trip up Baldwin Street;

It is officially the Worlds steepest street, with an angle of 35 degrees.
