One thing i did like about them was their appearance, they have a good tread pattern and i like the fact that the sidewall is not like a baloon, its quite flush with the wheel rim. The tyre place i use used to be a key dealer for Marangoni, so they could get them very cheaply, by far the cheapest tyre available from them at the time. Though i think they have moved onto supplying Maxxis or something.

I think the Vanto has now been replaced by the Verso.

Hmmm , hadn't even thought about that but as you mention it they do have a purposeful appearance !
Now using '00 Xantia LX HDI, pov spec :(

Yes, not a bad looking tyre really, replaced by the Verso which doesnt look quite as good but still has a stiff, flat sidewall.

How do you find wear rates, HDi?

About average. Definitely much better than budget tyres which always wear out quickly on the inside shoulder. At one time I thought this was due to a tracking or geometry error on the car but a laser alignment check showed it to be spot on. Budget tyres just don't have the carcass strength of good tyres.

I have decided on Yokohama A-drive , will get them next time I'm in UK (£190 for 4 balanced, valved, fitted, disposal).

As a matter of interest, I have found another site where you can put in the registration number and you are then given the original tyre size fitted when new.
This again says 205/60 x 15" 91 for my Hdi90.

Can I put such wheels on my car? I've got the offer of a set of exclusive alloys from a Xantia (year 2000 Hdi110).

Check the alloys for type. It's written on the rim edge visible from under the car looking outwards.

Le Castellet (6J) are for 185/65/15. Magny-Cours (6½J) are for 205/60/15. Steelies (6½) fit the wider tyres, too.

Make sure to get the correct wheelnuts - I have found a good number of mine are showing cracked cupped spring washers, so new ones by wheel type is often the best practice. Check for suitable penetration through the wheel and also seat type (conical or flat). If the spare differs, be sure to carry nuts for it also.

Fair enough.

As related commentary, I yesterday put my 75% C-Drives (205/60/15) to the front and shod the rear with new Kumho Solus in the same size. These "follow" well and seem nicely weighted from the factory (they're yet to be balanced).

My personal belief is that since a Xantia (estate, particularly) is pretty nose heavy, it needs most of a tyre's natural grip at the rear; the front's weight is a good fortifier of worn tyres. Had I room for two spares, I'd actually run 185/65/15 to the rear.
