as Paul has just shouted at you if the V6 or any XANT you propose to try to use the tops from has HYDRACTIVE or ACTIVe suspension, the tops WILL NOT FIT, the only ones you xcan try are any with the small 3.5mm pipes feeding the strut tops, as i belive your car is standerd suspaension,

also its no use coattuing them with anything, as they have a coatting off rubber over all the parts/surfaces which fail,

i think you are clutching at straws in the hope these secobnd hand ones will fit

as they rubber coatting perishes water gets in between the rubberised coatting and the metal

All this biz of stuff not fitting due to pipe sizes, comes back to some ideas I floated last year. Step-down reducers; it would mean the large pipe models could be used with small pipe fitments.

With more parts "NFP" are we getting closer to the point where it may be viable?

That strut top i've just bought comes up as NFP on citroens system. Even if I did order the strut, I wouldn't be able to order the pipe to go into it then, cos that is NFP too.

Just emailed them to check for compatibility and to see if they have anything for me in stock, if not then to cancel the order.

I have also contacted PCR too.

Thanks for the help guys.

Dei,

They WILL still try and sell it to you, because when I contacted them about it, the respose I got was " It SHOULD fit both mk.1 and 2 model" which I of course KNOW they wont without mod or replacement pipe work!.

Hi all,

Just got the strut top from wosley now, and the pipes DO fit, whats different is the seating for the top of the strut , plus the hole is bigger.

So it must be a different strut. On the listing they did specify the wrong part number in the q/a section and the part was for a series 1 V6.

So there we go, that is the difference, different struts on the V6. Will be returning it and going to get a new one from citroen. Blast.

Dei

YES The pipes WILL fit, but do they tighten up CORRECTLY!

Is there a step in the union hole were the pipe screws in?? Is the hole DEEPER? Compare it closely to your old top..

If they refuse a return, I WILL buy it off you!

Hi Paul,

The pipe inlets are EXACTLY the same, same depth, same thread and same seating towards the end, they are both chamfered (is that the word? cornered out) ever so slightly on the inside corner and the outside. So exactly identical there.

The holes on the strut top, where the threaded shaft of the actual strut come through are also bigger on the V6 version, they are 20mm wide and on the non-V6 version they are 17mm wide.

As you can see in the pictures below, the seating for the strut/end stop is different on the V6 one.

But if the series 2 has different pipe ends, then this is most definitely for the series 1 V6 as the pipe inlets are identical, and as I understand the v6 mk1 strut top is now a discontinued product.

Image

There are no obvious part numbers to uniquely identify either.

Image

This also shows the difference between a rotten strut top and a better one, the replacement one isn't shiny and new, but it is clean and solid and has been been cleaned with some kind of thinner/petrol.

So if you still want it paul, all i want is my £55 back to help fund the genuine citroen one that i have ordered today, they don't know when it will arrive cos of the weather as it comes from manchesta.

Hope that helps.
