Well i've bought the one side i needed now off wolsey, should be with me in a couple of days, £65 (all in) for a part that i want is not too bad, i would assume those guys know they rust through so wouldn't sell a bad one

i will obviously check the other side in more detail after i've sorted this side out, it's not as bad as the drivers side one for some reason??

In a word, YES, they are different. It's something to do with the steering geometry.

If you purchase new, Citroen define them as left & right - check which is which. Last year, Citroen assumed I'd need new boot as well, which I accepted & fitted. Something I've read somewhere, maybe on this forum, about struggling to re-use original gaitor. I only made a very brief comparison of the old & new gaitor, but there might have been some subtle minor difference. Imagine Jim or Paul will know if you can refit original boot to new strut

i only got the top, i took the boot off, i think it's just the tight fit that makes people buy new ones, it catches on that white strip half way down the shaft yea

Dei,

Thats a little bit of a mistake! They are S2 Tops and WILL NOT GO ON DIRECTLY!

Hence my Under investigation post above..

So DO NOT get your hopes up incase you get disapointed..

Of course I DO Hope you proove me wrong, but so far Ive found the Pipe is slightly different on S2 tops...

My S1 TD SX, on 220k drivers side strut was in a similar state to that, however, having "Normal" suspension, I had a pair of S2 Tops and struts off a HDi, which fitted beautifully!!

But thats with Normal 3.5mm feed pipes..

my thinking is that the 3.0i v6 will have hydractive 2 as well and as long as the holes line up and the pipe fits in and the strut comes through the top i should be ok

i think maybe the v6 version has a thicker base plate to support the extra weight, in which case my bolts won't go in deep enough, i can just pop to Citroen to get new ones

otherwise it could be just uprated metal and coatings for the mark 2 to prevent the rusting seen on the series 1.

who knows huh

Well just noticed they don't say on the listing whether the V6 is a series 1 or a series 2, so we will see. They do returns too, I did ask them if it would fit and they said should do.

Just been on 'service.citroen.com' now, their part no. is 5271-F3, I need E5. I'll see if i can join some pipes from a series 2 to a series 1.
