And it's called, 'LHM'? No other pseudonyms?

only LHM, no other fluid will do.

GSF is a good place to start, some total garages have it to

I rang a nearby Total garage and they only have something called 'HBS' fluid, so I presume this is not suitable. I'll look at GSF now.

Some motor factors stock LHM, may be worth trying a local one before venturing too far.

HBS gives no pertinent results on Google, never heard of it but possibly brake fluid? Newer Citroen systems use LDS, don't get this instead!

I'm finally back from a nightmare journey across town to the only Halfrauds store locally with any LHM. Hour and three quarters to spend £22 on two litres of bright green fluid!

Anyway, I chucked some in the tank, but wasn't sure where to stop - I was trying to go by the clear plastic indicator on the top of the tank. I tried to get the indicator to be somewhere between the two orange circles.

Immediately after starting off back, the STOP light and the other brake light were out, which is goo, but then anohter, different one came on.

This one looks like a filter housing, and was on for much of the return journey. It's gone out now. What should I make of this? Have I overfilled the LHM?

you check the lhm level with the suspension on high.
overfilling isn't a problem, some of the excess may just slosh out and make a bit of a mess.

does the new light have a wavey line across the filter housing image?
if so its the water in fuel sensor probably mis firing.
its a useless sensor which gives false readings more often than not so citroen eventually ditched it.
When was your fuel filter last changed?

I'll have to check it later, then, on high setting.

Yes, the new light is sort of wavy - perhaps to show that a liquid is there?

This came on immediately after I topped up the LHM.

I have never changed the fuel filter (in over a year), and the car was run on a mix of new vegoil and derv.

To check the level of LHM, what am I trying to get between the two orange lines?

LHM - with the car fully raised on the highest setting, get the orange disc between the two red lines (or red disc between the two orange lines)

If you were running on veg then it's best to change the fuel filter every 6000K when you change the oil.
So chances are it's time for a filter change too.

Now you need to figure out where it went - it's a sealed system and it shouldn't need topping up :?

Could be a blown sphere or two so the LHM level drops without leaking out.

You're beginning to scare me now!

Back to the LHM level... I have never tried to fiddle with the height adjustment on the Xantia before - I never understood what it was for in the first place. But I raised it anyway, but the first time I did it, I got out of the car to check the level and the front of the car went down again. Neat trick.

So the second time I raised the car and then leapt out of the car at top speed and ran over to check the level before the car sat back down again.

I can confirm that the level was spot on.

So, I guess I should monitor this for a while to see if it is leaking out somewhere, as i suppose it must be.

Pull the lever up vertically, slide it all the way back to the high position, and push the lever down vertically to lock it into place.

If it doesn't lock into place, then someone in the past may have broken the lever (I had a mate do this when I asked him to raise the car while I was under it on inspection ramps, there was a loud crack and I was most displeased - fitted a replacement from a scrap yard)

ok, thanks, I'll try that tomorrow. As for the LHM - monitor it or forget it? I guess I know what you'll say, however.

Check it over the next few days (suspension on high and engine running) to see how the level is.
Also do some citrobics as this will flush out any nitrogen bubbles in the system.
Basically set the car on high, wait for it to rise up fully, then a minute or so later, set the car on low, let it drop all the way down, wait a minute or so and go back to high, repeat this until you get bored :)
If I'm sat in the car waiting for someone to turn up I'll do some citrobics, otherwise I'll do it once a month.

Now, when were your spheres changed?
How is the ride? Hard and bouncy or soft and magic carpet like?

I'll try the Citrobics then!

I don't have any information on when (if) the spheres were changed, I'm afraid.

I've had the car since November 2008; it's done around 75k and it's a M plate.
