I cant comment on how a tuning box performs, but my C5 had a tuning box fitted before i bought it. It had been fitted for a while and hasnt had any negative impacts on the car at all.

Though my personal preference would be to get it remapped, this is a much better option in my opinion and a similar price. There are many tuning boxes around, but a remap is specific to that car, a custom remap is even better!

Though i wouldnt touch cheap tuning boxes, so your better off with a remap too.

Insurance would have to know about it, as a tuning box can be seen ....

I`ve had my 406 110 re mapped.Made a big difference.140 bhp & 220 lbft ish.In gear acceleration is much improved,more responsive,vastly better towing the caravan,& improved mpg.
Had it done by a bloke on ebay the week i got the car in Sept 2006 at 56k miles.Have now done 113k with no probs at all.Can get a bit of clutch slip in 4th or 5th gears if flooring it,but my Dad did a lot of towing with it & so do i.I also use a K & N air filter which has more than paid for its self now. :)

Im not worried about any clutch slip, I have JUST fitted a new clutch in the said car, about 500 miles ago, due to the release bearing collapsing!

Thanks for your inputs guys! I like the outputs your giving me

With the C5 I went for a remap that I put onto the car itself, this has made a big difference but obviously isn't transferable between cars.

Oh! Steve please tell us a little more about that petrol? diesel? how do you do it? where do you get the data from? AND in the event of an accident does anybody check the mapping?

The remap is on my C5 HDi as listed in my signature. Was 110bhp now around 135-140bhp.

I bought a clone Galetto 1260 tool and paid for a member of the chiptuners forum to do the map. Using the tool I copied the ECU map from the car and emailed it off, when it was emailed back I flashed it back to the car. A few simple precautions are needed to ensure you don't brick the car, dealers charge good money for ECU repairs.

I would doubt that the ECU map would be checked following an accident unless the police or insurers have good reason to suspect the car's been tampered with. It just not the sort of thing that's done following a normal accident.
