Simples If you tap the "accelerator splindle" through the it's bronze bushing as you gradually lift the top off you'll gain enough clearance to unhook the spring, completely remove the top and leave the spindle sitting in place still attached to the govenor levers. The spring is very springy so little chance of over stretching it unless you're really careless - even I can do it
