Hmmm good point Jim...

As for your leak, TRY first tightening the 17mm nut for the return, Ive had a couple of them come loose strangely... worth a try, I done a pinion valve on my TD last year, and it was a sod, I ended up looseing the rack and pulling it part way out to get at the valve... a fiddle but did it..

It's not leaking from there on the pinion valve Paul..

It's leaking from the other end of the metal pipe right behind the ram where the metal pipe ends and it joins to a rubber pipe that turns through a right-angle and runs up to join the 5 way manifold (octopus) on the side of the LHM reservoir.

I'd be happier if it was leaking from the pinion valve as it would be 100% more accessible

I'm hoping I can have a natter with Martin at Pleiades and splice a new length of pipe in to save replacing the octopus pipe.

Ah, I had an Estate TD split a pipe here, although, ive not looked in this area on my V6, on the TD, I pulled the pipe off, cut it down, re routed it passed the height corrector and found there to be enough "Spare" to put it back on, Oh, also with have a couple of spares, bent the metal pipe around a bit more to make the difference up...

Worked a treat for the customer..

Well i was happy it was fixed earlier, however now i have actually test driven it im not so happy, im getting alot of vibration through the steering wheel at certain points whilst driving/parking

Anyone have any ideas to cut this down? I was thinkgin perhaps clamping some rubber hose around parts of the pipe to absorb vibrations?

Did you put a big coil into the pipe Dave?

Mind you, even with a coil in, the engine vibration will have a free path to the steering rack and hence the feeling.

I guess that's why Citroen put that rubber section in.

Experimentation with hose, rubber blocks and careful clamping should help.

right guys. have done the pipe now. dont have pics yet but will talk you through what i have been able to do. as you know the flexi rubber part was leaking at the wheelarch end. common fault i am led to believe.
i made a call to universal supplies who make all kinds of hydraulic parts. they were able to make up a 6mm flexi for me with 6mm compression joint fixings. this allowed me to cut out the old rubber one and then grind down the pipe to 6mm and join back together with the new pipe and compression joints. works like a dream and looks good too. no vibration at all through the steering. the pipe is rated to 4000 psi and is more than capable of holding the pressure.

i would like to know what you think of this mod. if there is anyone who would like to see if universal supplies are able to help with pipes drop me a line on rbramm at tiscali dot co dot uk and i will put them in touch with you. happy motoring.

Interesting, the problem with mine was that it stepped down form 6mm to 4.5mm, although the vibration is fairly limited now. (or im just more used to it!)

hi dave. mine must have still been the original pipe as both ends were 6.35 mm. maybe a previous owner has repaired or replaced your one previously.

seems to have worked well on mine. now have normal light steering and the front sus no longer sinks as pressure was being lost.

just gotta mot it now. not looking forward to the probs i might find lol.

regards

hi dave just another quick note. the guys at universal supplies would probably be able to supply a reducer to connect the flexi if the vibration gets too much.
