That would surely be lunchtime when all good French people know that it's vital to close the shutters and enjoy a good meal...andmcit wrote:Were these all taken during that weird French Twilightzone period of the day where everyone is teleported to another place for a short while

Fab' pics! Thanks
Yes, I too see many R4's here. One lives opposite in 'van version'. It's very faded yellow in colour, possibly an ex 'La Poste' van. Sounds as sweet as a nut too.
The elderly lady along the way has a white R5 which is the runabout for the 'clan' of elderly ladies in our hamlet. It gets a good wash a & hoover once a year, when all four ladies get stuck in with their wash gear

Must remember to take pictures when Im over in France, at the moment I'm over there every 5-6 weeks doing a 900-1000 mile round trip to the house.
I didn't think the Tolls are too bad, works out around 14 euro's each way but I now have a "T" tag for them, saves leaning over and finding change....

I guess it depends on where you go?
It was more like 14-18 euros per toll station and we passed through quite a few. But i didnt mind, their motorways are much better than ours, you can actually get somewhere and at speed too. The motorways mostly seem less congested and the drivers actually know about lane discipline, compared to here where most people seem happy in the middle lane
So you have a house in France then? Very nice, where abouts?

a 6 I think. I know where it lives, so will try to get a pic soon
Oh estate & light blue. Actually I thought it was 'dead' & just left to it's demise as I've seen it in the same place for about 4 years. Then t'other day it was gone. Thought it had gone to 'the yard'. But nah it's back now [/b]

I really like the Ami 6 saloons, what a fantastic looking car, one of my favourite Citroens. Saloons are much more rare than the estates.
One house which we often stayed in on the south cost of France belonged to an english person who was friends with my dad. He had an Ami 6 saloon in pale blue which he kept at this house in the garage.
We used the Ami while we were over there a few times, it was a stunning example. That was over 10 years ago and the car has now been sold. Ive pictures of it somewhere.

Ami 8s are a different shape, the easiest way to tell is with the front. The 8 has less of a dip in the bonnet. 6 Saloons have the odd rear window which slopes into the car (Ford Anglia style, Citroen was the first with it) the 8 is a more conventional rear on the saloon.
Ami 6
It was styled by Bertone, and is apparently their favourite design.
Very good site for Citroen info:

Yep a house on france (my dad lives there but its mine) its only in brittany but love it out there, so quiet.
Your right about the drivers over there, they ONLY use the outside lane to overtake, hsmae we cannot learn from them, mine you they do tend to just indicate and pull out. Roads are great and some of the motorways are virtually empty.

It must be very nice to have your own place out there
The driving is a little erratic at times, however they do use motorway lanes well, it really seems to keep the traffic moving most of the time. I also like the 80mph speed limit on the motorways - in good weather. Parking, espeically in the large cities, has to be seen to be believed. Bumpers are sometimes well used
Im looking forward to my next visit, not got one booked for this year so will probably next summer now.

Driving in France is generally a pleasure. You can't really say the same about driving in the UK anymore but that doesn't mean you can't find good, clear roads and beautiful scenery here. They're become more scarce that's all.
I drove nearly 2,000 miles at the beginning of the month in France (and I did nearly 3,000 last October) and I have to say, the standard of driving is better than here. The roads are generally better and the street signs clearer. We lost the plot here a while ago.
