Hi All.....

And Hi Nigel.

Sorry to bring this back to the top again, but what the hey, here goes.

Nigel, I'm glad to see that the driveshaft sorted everything, it seems that the crude test that we did was the best way of finding this irritating fault, for all else, you had to experience it !!! the vibration was not car related at all, but the gearstick looked as though it was going to take off when you put your foot down.

The arm was wrong, it was so floppy when the ball joint was dissconnected, it just felt wrong and it was a fault that needed doing so it was duly sorted with a new genuine arm complete with both rubbers.

As for the bottem bush, this was also a problem waiting to happen, the rubber was only holding in by about 5mm of unbroken rubber, so again better changed, the good news is that it is possible to do this without removing the whole bracket, although it is very very tight. As for the costings of the bush, well for a breakdown I know that the bush is only £13 from the main dealers, but the problen we had was that Nigel wanted his car back and I wanted the car off the ramp, so needs must when the devil farts on you, the bush was £13.00 the guaranteed before 9 delivery was £9.00 I stuck the figure of £1 on top to cover my phone calls to get the thing and the total was £23.00. I decided not to make anything on this job as I new that it was not going to fix the vibration.

All's well that ends well and the vibration is now gone.

Regards.
Martin.

thanks Martin,

you shouldnt have to justify yourself though martin as long as the punter was happy and I am very happy and grateful for all the help and advice you gave. besides I think what you did was above and beyond what any other garage would have done in diagnosing the problem and as a bonus along the way you found another issue which could have destroyed a new driveshaft is it had not been replaced.

as I said above arguing about a few quid here or there is a pontless excersize if the customer is happy and the end of the day. the engine mount being replaced probably saves me from damaging another driveshaft or driveshaft bearing.

I for one shall be returnning as you know for suspension spheres hydraflush and a little later that rear arm which is starting to camber a bit.
I have also forwarded your details to some of my neighbours who own xantias and I know they will be happy to know that there is someone they can rely on instead of traveling 120m miles round trip to the nearest non-main dealer specialist.

cheers Martin. =D> =D> =D>

regards Nigel.

i do simmilar to Martin to check which side of the car the like's of a wheel bearing or transmision noise is,
appart from i just lift one wheel off the ground at a time, this way the other wheel dose not rotate

and i also do agree you should not have to justify yourself as Nigel had already put me straight on why the bush came to so much

kind regards
malcolm
