About a year and a half overdue for an update, and the same time overdue for getting the rear subframe done.

I thought that as the rear subframe had a fair amount of surface rust it would be good preventative maintenance to get it powder coated, I wasn't expecting the rot pictured that will require some welding before going off to be done!

Not sure if I should repair the wheel carrier before sending It off or wait to see what's left of it then do it.
Just goes to show that where you cant see there may be nasty surprises. The alloys are at a local place being refurbished and painted at the moment and fingers crossed ill be making it to the x-rally.

The house has been taking a lot of my time meaning not much time in the garage as well as overtime at work, though with summer I should have a bit more time to spare. The Cx has been waiting my attention for far to long.

Well a bit more progress. Subframe is all stripped bar the mounts, if anyone has any advice on how to remove these it would be welcome!
Need to crack out the angle grinder and welder next.

Image

This is the mounting that i'm unsure on how to remove or where to obtain a new one

Oooh, that's nasty looking.... Suspect that is not going to be easy to repair properly!

On the bushes they should *just* press out :rofl2:

If it's a MK2, then they are still available, albeit as a complete set of 4 (part no 513175) costing £175  However, the same mounts are used on Xantias (all variants) so it should be possible to pick some up cheaper eg This ended listing on e-bay for a set or This one for a single mount

MK1 has a different part number (95 030 525), is NFP, and not used on anything else (well, service.citroen thinks it is used on AX seat frames :-D )

Thanks for the link, I managed to get them out and have started grinding away the rust.

Picked up my alloys today, they look better than new!

Well more grinding tonight.

If anyone has a subframe and/or a rear wheel carrier for sale now would be a good time to name your price as it is a lot more welding than I would like!

Talking to xmexclusive from club-xm about subframe mounts he cautioned me on the orientation of some rubber mounts that may look like they fit physically but would not be suitable due to the rubber orientation.
Picture shows more, on the left Is the new one I bought and on the right is the removed one.

Image

Thankfully the one I removed is in excellent condition and with a bit of painting will give many years further service.
Below is the bit worrying me at the moment
Image

There is one section that looks as though it needs welding beneath the support plate, but it seems pointless removing the whole support plate for one area of welding so I may just remove the offending flap, we shall see!

So I wasn't sure If I had updated here or not but earlier this year I realised that I needed a car that worked and that perhaps the Xm was not going to live up to that task. I am sorry to say that I had to buy a newer more sensible car.....

Image

Obviously I didn't and now have a C6.

I went a good few months with an awful suspension that made me hate the car, replaced various bits before finding (As I had first thought) that it was a duff rear sphere. She now rides very nicely!

The wife does feel that I may have been economical with the truth when I said it would be less maintenance than the XM as its already been off to the dealers for a few things including a new EGR valve!

I have not been on here much as I am again at Uni in my spare time, this means the Xm is pretty much in the same position as it is in the pictures above- I keep promising the wife I will get rid of it but cant quite bring myself to do it!

Hi Dave, great to see you on here and I trust all is really well.. We've missed you!

I like the C6... Nice 8-)

The XM will keep until you have the time and resources. Don't ever do what I have done in the past and got rid of something you might later regret - as you surely will. I have... Especially a certain 205 GTi

If you ever wanted another 205 gti now is the time to buy Jim. Prices are starting to go through the roof now, where Shauns one cost 1100 a year ago, you won't get a basket case for that now, a tidy runner over 2 grand and I heard of one sold for nearly 20 grand! To be fair it was one owner phase 1 only ever summer/dry use, very low mileage and totally original and unmarked! Normal exceptional ones about 7 to 10 grand.

Gosh, I'm shocked Davie... If I still had mine in the condition it was....

I'm banking on Activas going the same way in the near future ;)

How much do Mi16 205GTis go for these days? Ones with the pukka alloy blocked 16v engine?
