XM 2.0 SEI 1992 Auto gear-box.

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the automatic gear-box from the vehicle leaving the engine unit in-situ, or does the complete assembly have to be removed as one unit ?
Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.
