I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic there Mike  I hope you were!
No! I genuinely love these things. Tap me up first when you get bored of it.

When I got divorced and wrote off my Xantia soon after, a K-plate Aura TD was all I could afford back in 2005. It was a top car for the £400 I paid for it. I did 20k in it in about 7 months until the MOT ran out, hammered it everywhere constantly and it never missed a beat, and even survived one of those insurance scam crashes when I hit a Laguna. It died when the garage made a complete balls of some repairs, and I was a bit more flush, so I bought an XM. The engine was great, it'd hold a genuine 120mph on the UK Nurburgring.. I have fond memories of the simplicity and fun of the thing. I did have another later, but it snapped the timing belt on the M6 at speed.

Well, Mike, there are currently 10 ZXs' in various styles on e-bay, mostly around the £500 mark.

It'd have to be a TD Aura or Volcane if I had another one.

Have a look at the previous owners if you can, It looks very much like the one a neighbour had a few years ago before he changed to a C5.

I shall let you know if I sell it :)

Sounds like you do really like them, I must say I'm really getting to like this one, ZXs are nice to drive.

Also the same as my uncle had new. Yes, I do like simple mechanics, none of this modern complicated stuff with features designed to break.

It used to live on the Isle of Skye Steve, it then lived on the Isle of Mull and now here :)

They are top little cars, and this one looks very nice now it's had a wash. I also had a 1.4 petrol one, which was really good fun to drive and handled even better due to less weight on the front end. I bought that as a runabout for my ex-wife when we had a 4 year old Mondeo , but ended up using the ZX myself until the gearbox went funny.

Well the ZX has been with me for almost a week now. I've been using it quite a bit, it's been on tip run duties, getting me to work and collecting a 7 foot Christmas tree. I've done a few more ironing out of small issues but its not going badly at all.

The only problem I've had with it is a flat battery one morning, which wasn't a worry apart from when I changed the battery the headlights were flashing due to the alarm. The car does have a remote plip but that doesnt work and the key slot under the bonnet seems to have no effect. Fortunately I was able to reset the alarm with the interior sensor button.

As ever, I'm very tempted to keep doing things to tidy the car and sort its defects but I'm not sure how far I will go there. I'll keep it in occasional use and see how it keeps performing.

Taking of performing, after quite a lot of trundling around town I became stuck behind a tractor on a B road. I found a gap and put my foot down in second to overtake, I almost lost sight of the Fiesta (parents friends, unfortunately) that was following me! I guess it needed a good clearout  Since then its been ok and I'm surprised at how rev happy the 1.9TD is, it seems to keep pulling well into high revs. It sits at motorway speed quite nicely, my only minor point is it's quite low geared for a diesel. That said, it does give it a reasonable pickup in top at high speed.

It's good to see your putting the Zx to some good use Chris. It would make a great winter daily driver.

Looks a nice little car Chris. I suppose it's island life has resulted in a relatively easy life for it...
