On idle the turbo isn't under any load, but if the bearing seals have gone it will allow oil to enter the exhaust system, this will cause lots of smoke (blue) but won't affect idling.
The only things that will affect idle are the cold start mechanism or incorrect fuel pump timing, an air leak in the fuel system or a faulty pump.
That is assuming there isn't a compression problem.

Could be a duff needle lift sensor.
Jenny was suffering from that, sometimes when she started she'd sound like a bag of nails, so would have to stop and start again.
Engine light only came on when it was noisy, but Jim's Lexia showed the ECU wasn't able to adjust the timing properly.
Swapped the injector and it's working fine.
