Noz has posted on CXM explaining what is going on, i think the forum is very shakey at the mo and is in need of an upgrade but to do so now could mean a loss of member info or something like that.
I will post nozs response on the club xm down thread here in a minute for those who cant find there way in yet, fingers crossed though  .

Turbo re build kits can be found on ebay, all you need to know is your make and model of turbo, Garrett T25 or is that just the 2.5 derv?????
Also you want to make sure the compressor and turbine wheels are undamaged and that the casing isnt cracked.
The kits contain new bearings, oil seals, thrust washers and any nuts bolts and fixings used to hold each side of the turbo to the core.

BLIMEY! Thats a low milage to be havin Turbo problems!!!

Ive an L reg one here 202k and STILL gives 43 mpg HONEST! Im shocked myself, I thought the D turbos only managed 40...

No smoke, and a GOOD strong turbo too... Ive also a customer with a D turbo Xanta S2 with 260k on all original....

Theres a good few on here too with 200k plus and no problems.

How strange!

I thought that was the norm too Paul but ive had to do my brothers TZD BX turbo recently with only 90k on the clock :-k and a couple of transit turbo's at less but they are ford so i think thats normal
My XM turbo has 175k and the turbo is perfect and thats petrol so the derv ones should be good for longer due to less heat.

I think the problem might stem from the last owner (my old man) he only drove it once or twice a week and that was for only 3 or 4 miles each way.sure way to kill an engine off early

Hi in that case dean is possibly right annothrt thing to check is the breather pipe from the cam box cover to see if there is a lot of oil being blown into the intake pipe showing either blocked breather system and or high crankcase pressure
sorry for asking about red diesel/heating oil it seems that the oil companies have removed some additives from these fuels which cause this problem also a lot of older oil fired boilers/heaters had their pumps pack up due to theese additives being removed
cheers

Not necesserally, on a Petrol maybee they HATE short trips!

But A derv does not bother on a short trip! Whens the last time you saw Mayo under the oil cap on a DERV after a short journey!!

UNLESS the gaskets gone you WONT!! It doesn't bother them, they dont condensate like Petrols!!! Hence their longer life IF THE OIL IS changed regurally!! On the XUD's that is!!

My Onyx Turbo with 168k is lettin oil up the inlet! Ive a spare turbo, but WANT to shift her on - however, if I dont sell before the MOT is out, Ill give her a rebuild....

Im not intending to give her away...

could it be possible with the short trips low speed/turbo not working much, carbon could build up on the turbo seal which i believe is like a piston ring and hence leaing oil into the exhaust? or am i clutching at straws?

Thats the surprising thing about it, if it was smoking all the time it would be a little easier but only smoking on start up and long time idle is a little confusing, and the fact it clears when you rev it up

its usually the other way ,an oil leak causes buildup on the shaft which makes the turbine shaft a bit sticky and will affect low end boost due to the inability of the turbo to spool up with a low exhaust flow.
Dervs do tend to keep the condense away far better than petrol engines, not sure why though as they run cooler so it should take them longer to clear?!?!?!?

This the Compression Ignition Concept, and DERV is a dryer fuel...once burnt

DERV is burt NEAT, NOT mixed.. igniting only when the Compressed air is HOT and the EXTREAMILLY fine spry of derv hits the compressed air it ignites...

Hence NO card! and fuel injectors directly in the compressed air department...

Dont get mixed up now...

This will be 40 quid EACH for EITHER Lucas or Bosch on the OLDER XUD Mechanical injection units

NOT THE NEWER electronically controlled injectors.

I must admit my first thoughts were an injector worn/weeping and when i took them out one was a little damp, but with a new set in and still the same i,m bit stumped. obviously if i throw enough money at it i.ll fix it.
