No door reinforcement!! I thought all the 'later' Xantias had it.

In my experience the list on Service Citroën isn't paticularly accurate as I've found numerous inaccuracies on it when looking at my Xantia's.

Had my drivers side door panel off this morning to do some wiring checks (see post on power windows malfunctioning) and was relieved to note that I do indeed have side impact reinforcement bars... go figure

Ok Guys. A few strange things on this car.

First off I will check with Swansea on Mon to see what this car really is.

Secondly : This car has Bendix calipers at the front.

On stripping out a caliper today I found this.

Image

So we have a pad for a 110hdi and discs of 265mm put on the car.......wrong!

The pads I have bought are the same as the ones that are worn in this manner. My new discs are 288mm. But they are 35mm thick and vented.

Now even with caliper wound and pushed back beyond the dust seal it don`t look like they will go in there. I don`t want to bruise the goods in case they have to go backto GSF. What to make of it? Is this an HDI 90? . If so what brakes would be in it? 255mm and smaller pads? OR another 288mm disc but a thinner non vented one?

Any light shed on this would be appreciated.

The chassis number and engine code on your car designate it as a 110 bhp. The pads and discs should be of the largest available for a Xantia so 288mm is correct.

Well Super you ar correct on the dimensions. My mistake . 288mm and 28mm thick. These discs are as heavy as my old Patrol 4.2d

Isn`t it amazing to think that someone been driving for a year with this setup. The guy is a mate of mine. He always complained that the brakes were crap. Those little discs were working so hard that they have hair cracks in them through overheating.

This has transfered through to the pads and they are cracking too. What would be the outcome if car had been involed in a fatal and towed away for inspection........void insurance methinks.

MOT man showed me the braking performance on the gauge. You could see it fading to about 25percent.

Your car isn't alone on such bodges, a couple of years ago I checked the front brakes on a friends AX and found that one side had the correct size disc but the disc on the other side was way too small with the pads overhanging the disc and pushing against each other

Pretty disappointing to find stuff like that on a car; it's a sure sign of low-IQ mechanicking. My wagon had a dealer-fitted replacement accumulator sphere. It was completely the wrong one.

My suspicion, is that the bodgers damaged your original calipers and fitted a cobbled up arrangement to cover their work.

Are the HDI 90 calipers the same as 110 ones?. That is : do they have the bolt at the bottom but do not accept the wide vented discs and meaty pads?. Have we established if 110 hdi calipers are or can be Bendix?

Anyone got a pic of a 110 caliper ?

Thanks guys.

HDi 90 calipers are smaller than 110 ones.

If you are uncertain of what engine you have in your car, on a HDi 110 there will be a second intake pipe running between the engine and the intake pipe from the air filter.
