That would be ace

Ill be updating this thread soon, the van has been super reliable, but in typical fashion i can't leave anything alone, so pulling engine out to fit a lairy cam/vernier pulley/uprated valve springs & sort out a couple of other bits. Commencing monday night hopefully.

Hve you thought about using the twin carb off a C2J instead of the single on the C1J and getting the inlet pipe and some other bits madeup to use it as to remove a bit of the bottle-neck you get on the solex single carb???

Looks good so far and must'nt be too bad on fuel normally as well :)

You replacing the box with one from say a diesel R19 if poss for longer ratios??

Like the lobster elbow as well, seems a bit of a high angle though as it near enough puts the silicone straight onto the cam cover and in summer that will get very toasty....

What kind of IC are you using and are you thinking of making up a check spray kit to help in the summer months as we know how well the head gaskets like heat :( Also battery location, you thinking of moving it to the rear to help with wieght distribution and maybe the washer bottle as well???

Lots of work but i guess its a good way to make sure there's something to do on the weekends :D

The c2j carb is no good kp, it has no enrichment for the fuelling on boost.

I considered going for a twin choke off a lancia turbo but its too much hassle to be fair. Some of the lads on the club are knocking on the door of 300hp these days with the 32dis still fitted, so it would probably be more beneficial going efi that playing with different carbs.

Ill be keeping the gtt box, Without spending a lot of money its probably the best suited box for the engine.

Im using a frontera 2.5 tdi intercooler grill mounted. I may need to go bigger though, will have to get an act gauge to see how it performs with more boost

Could you not then install a single injector so as to enrich on boost??

Its a big old turbo thats why i thought of the C2J carb as it would help give more low down grunt before spool up and then how about when on boost just pull the chok out to near close one of the pots and thus no need to enrich as it would be extra fuelling already?

Need more precision on the fuelling mate, Its the key to reliability in a turbo motor. 5th injector kits & the like are crap these days. When i hear 5th injector i instantly think of escort rs turbo's blowing up back in the day

To make the c1j more responsive low down more ignition advance is needed, i.e standalone ecu with a better map, as the standard aei is mapped for a small turbo, with a massive hole low down when a big turbo is fitted. Too much money to consider at this moment in time though, maybe next year.

Ill be revving it to 7500 with the new cam so lag won't be too much of an issue apart from first gear. Im hoping to crack a 13 sec run at the pod in it this year. Ill eventually transfer the lot into a car to see how fast it is with better aerodynamics :D

You are certainly making good progress, and having a good amount of space to work in must help, nice lockup. 8)

Time to update after busy weekend..

Got the engine pulled to bits on sat. The head & original gasket are in mint nick which is a pleasant surprise. Piston crowns are in good shape, no det marks etc. My carb tuning can't be bad these days

Fitted cam & vernier, timed it up with dti gauge. I dug out my tuning the bl a series book by David Vizard for help with this. An excellent book...

Image

Painted block up & fitted my other baffled sump on that has a crankcase breather on. Fitted a few shiny bits...

Gearbox cleaned & painted...

Nice job, i spy a -31 on that....

Need aftermarket management for the Maestro, it too runs a carb which is ok for fuelling but the timing isnt too clever as the original map over-advances in places.

Get some pics of the maestro up mate, i always fancied one just never seen a good one for sale. A mate of mine had a montego turbo back in the day & it used to shift for a big car!

Im going to have to bleed off the actuator line on the -31, It won't hold any more than 24lb. I was going to use a -34 but have been warned away due to turbo surging..

Im hoping to set the fuelling up for 21lb boost at the manifold if the intercooler is up to the job, ive got a feeling the act's will go through the roof with the frontera i/c that's on now. Need to get an act gauge ordered sharpish.

Got the crap job out of the way this afternoon, removing the derv engine mount from o/s inner wing. Forgot how much i hate bodywork/grinding. Its turned out pretty good for rattle cans, not concours but functional due to loads of bare metal. If i had the funds/patience to do the full engine bay i would have, but at this moment im itching to get it back together.

Next job is get the flywheel/box back on, Then get the lump dropped back in.
