I got through a few sets of the sportrac2 tyres on my xantia and it always felt very sure-footed and stable. A really nice tyre.

Unfortunately, even when paying the extra £20 to have the tracking checked and reset, my xantia always wears out the outer edges of the fronts, so now I run a pair of cheapo barum bravuris on the front and they seem a bit tougher and grip OK and I don't bother any more with tracking adjustments.

Still got the sportracs on the back and they seem to be lasting very well.

I think they are quite an underated/unknow tyre, not one people think of really.

My Xm tends to scrub off the outside edges first too, not very much mind probably down to cornering. Apart from that i find it very good on tyres. These sportrac3s have done about 3500 miles and they are still new.

which tyres

Hi,
My old L reg Xantia TD had Goodyear G2's on it---in fact the only car I have ever had with ALL the same tyres fitted. :D . They had excellent grip, especially in the wet, and wore well. I have a right mixture on my S reg TD.

ATS are one of the few places able to balance Citroen wheels.
Why? I'm not aware of anything unusual about Citroen wheels - and I have no difficulty getting a perfect balance on the balancer at work (except for the out-of-true spare).

May I inject a note of caution into the tyre debate? Different tyres suit different cars (even model variants) due to detail differences in the way the suspension loads the tyres.

Personally, I have been pleased with the Michelin Energys fitted all round on our 1.9TD Estate, and they've coped well with the recent slippery conditions - no (un-studded) tyres grip on ice!

Xantias need front tyres (like the Michelins) with asymetric tread - more rubber on the outside to counteract the wear.

The no centre hole is a brick wall for most tyre fitters and not all that have the facility have the ability.

I hadn't thought about that as a solution

I'll be looking at the tread patterns next time I need a set.

Also a good point about the model differences

I changed the front tyres on my Xantia just before Christmas, they had Enduro Runways on, they always looked deflated at the front (bulging sidewalls at the bottom) even though the PSI was about 44/45.

Decided to go for Goodyear Excellence, quite a funky tread pattern compared the the previous. Most importantly, road noise was reduced, handling was vastly improved and I don't get that buldge at the bottom of the tyres!
I think they were around £50 a corner down the local tyre place.

All Xantias look like they have under inflated front tyres!
It's very disconcerting

I think it was stated here before that different brands have different sidewall strengths. It was also said the stronger/stiffer sidewall compounds compliment the xantia ride better than softer makes.
