Hi Toby, sorry to read of all the grief you're going through but good on you too keep at it - it's worth it IMO and you'll be so glad you didn't give up
I'm suffering a nasty cold at the moment so won't be offering my help at this time - not that I know much about HDI's but if it's any use to you, I've got an MOT'd and taxed Granada not being used should you need a runaround and don't forget, I've still got a spare cam seal left over. Oh, and I've got some sealant left that I used for my bearing caps if you want that too. If there's anything else you think you might need, just ask. You're not putting anyone out by asking and all the better if it's offered first (ie DickieG's offer, grab it while you can I say!)
Good luck and keep at it.

Thanks Mike, your right, I'm not gonna let this one beat me
Thanks for your offer but really atm all I do is go to work; for that the push bike is adequate
If that cam seal fits the HDi then it would save me a fiver having to get one from Citroen, as well as some sealant. Halfrauds didn't have any left when I went in today. I may have to get a bus over to Christchurch anyway to pick some parts up from the dealer. It's just getting a spare day to do it.
Thanks again fellas

Its Ferndown (Tricketts Cross) Mike.
Will do, could you PM your number as I seem to have lost it
On another note, work has meant I've not managed to get out and check the car for more broken rockers or (hopefully not) bent valevs. Looks like it'll have to be New Years Day and then I can go get the parts day after.
Is it possibly to buy an injector plug separately and wire it on as one of mine is just sitting on the injector without a clip holding it there (if you get what I mean) I did look on Citroen service but I could only find it on the main engine loom which requires the purchase of the whole loom at about £200 or thereabouts
Thanks

If its simply the wire clip you require then I'm sure someone here will have one sitting around.Toby_HDi wrote:Is it possibly to buy an injector plug separately and wire it on as one of mine is just sitting on the injector without a clip holding it there (if you get what I mean) I did look on Citroen service but I could only find it on the main engine loom which requires the purchase of the whole loom at about £200 or thereabouts
BTW HDi cam seals are different to XUD TD cam seals.

If the rocker has broken the chances are all the little needle roller bearings (you will see what i mean when you look at the new rocker) from it are sitting in the cambox under the oil, there are about 15 needles in each rocker. I would get a telescopic magnet in there & try & retrieve as many as possible once the camshaft is out. I would get some new vaccum pump seals aswell when removing the camshaft.
With regards to the injector clip I would imagine this is the bosch system & i believe the bosch injectors dont have a metal clip, the clip is a moulded plastic part of the plug, best getting one from a scrappie & soldering the new plug on.

Needle roller bearings? That doesn't sound good.
I haven't removed the vacuum pump so shoudn't need new seals.
Will try to get a picture. Am about to go out and have a quick look for more broken bits....

Thanks Colin, hopefully it shouldn't be too bad as it seems only one rocker is broken. Also seems that the valves are intact - at least all the springs are released when cam is removed, none are still compressed.
I think I'll replace the one rocker, re-time, and go for a start.
Can't find any evidence of these needle roller bearings, as said possibly sitting in the oil? Will have to invest in a little magnet when shops open again.
As for the clips, I have some pictures:
The first one is a picture of an intact wiring connector so you can see what I mean
This one is the broken connector
And in the final one you can see the bit that has broken off
Thanks

Nothing you can do to repair those connectors I'm afraid Toby Wheeler has the best solution. Those connectors are used all over later PSA vehicles so you don't necessarily need to rob an HDi for one.
Make a goood job of soldering a new one, they carry a significant current.

I assume they don't come apart either? Am a stickler for details just don't want it looking like a repair has been done. Would be nice be able to solder the wires inside the connector so it looks original

No, sadly, thay're moulded on to the wires Toby. No option but to do a repair by soldering and heat-shrink sleeving.
I believe the wires going to the injectors are twisted together. It is very important to retain that twist along with the same gauge of wire when doing the repair.
If youbtake car you should be able to more-or-less hide the repair.

Quick question for when I start to put everything back together:
How do make sure the camshaft is in exactly the right place? I know it'll only slot in two ways due to the cutout on the end but how do make sure it is timed correctly? Surely there will be valves open on cylinders 2 and 3 as 1 and 4 are at TDC? How is the camshaft fitted so it holds the valves open?
I will have to retime from scratch
