I wrote these connection down when I done my mates radio but it’s a few years ago & notes that made sense then are confusing now!

Good luck, let me know what happens.

Cheers.
SORTED!!

Connected the chip to in this manner and BINGO!! It has come up, and the code happens to be the correct way round!!!

THANKYOU SO MUCH EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED!

I can NOW unlock the two radios I have here!!!!!

Excellent result.....glad it worked for you.....that really is great news :D

A few questions for you......

Did you use the reader with Windows XP?....if not what operating system did you use?

Did you have to connect pin 8 of the chip to get it to work or did you just connect pin 5 & leave 8 off ?

Cheers.

Thanks for that....did you try it with XP ?
Just interested to know if the reader programme would work with XP.

So how did you remove the chip ...did you get a hot air soldering iron?

As you have another radio to do you could try reading the chip in place to see if the reader would work that way...there is a chance that it won't as the other components on the circuit board could effect the reading, but you never know.

No I didn't re try it on XP....

Ill get an 8 Pin socket and connect the wires to each approiate pin... I cannot see why it wont work in place... A decoding service place would NOT remove the chip to read it...

Maybe you could try the next one with XP & see if you can get a result.

Yeah a 8 pin socket with the wires connected to it may work....the chip in the radio is a smaller chip as it's a surface mount device (SMD) so won't fit the socket....but maybe you could bend the legs of the socket so that they would line up & then hold the socket so that the legs touched the legs of the radio chip....if you follow.

Reading the chip in place is possible & as you say radio decoders don't remove the chip to read it....however the equipment that they use will be a lot more sophisticated than the reader you are using.
I would imagine that equipment designed for reading components in situ won't need such a clear signal from the chip to get a good dump.

Cheers.

OK, my next task, does anyone know how to reset the chip, or unblock it...

Ive discovered this chip controls the display, IE: If I put an Unlocked chip into another radio that was blocked up, it WILL work, so if we can work out how up unblock the blocked ones, were in business...

PS: AS above leaving the units on for 2 days DOES NOT unlock the chip...

citroenxm wrote:....you get 4 attempts to put the code in, thats when you press the BAND button after each fail to try again....

Its after the fourth time it locks out - as the hand book says - for an hour and must be left on for that time.. HOWEVER Ive found that this DOES NOT WORK on all 3 of these radios, so Ive connected it to a DC power supply in house, and just left it switched on with the 4 dashes in the LCD screen... IF I press the BAND during this time, it just displays 4 dashes lower the 4 in the middle and stays locked... when its unlocked I think it goes back to CODE IN flashing in the screen... untill then the units are .... useless....

When the radio is fitted in the car in has 2 power feeds....one is to give it power so it will work....the other is a permanent live. The permanent live enables the radio to keep its code so that you don't have to re enter the code each time the radio is switched off then back on. Disconnecting the battery removes this permanent live .....when the battery is re connected the code has to be entered.

As you have the radio set up in the house working from a dc supply have you supplied the radio with the permanent live that it needs?
....If you haven't the radio won’t time out & change to the CODE IN screen no matter how long you leave it!

You may have to wait up to 3 hours before the CODE IN screen comes up depending on how many wrong codes have been entered.

I'm sure my mates radio would power up with just the one live...his was from a Pug 405...they must be different.

I only think there are 2 lives (but worth checking).... so I guess the radio is permanently locked.

I'm not sure how many attempts you get at putting the code in ...but I seem to remember it goes something like this.....

After 4 attempts you get locked out for 15 minutes or so then with each failed attempt the waiting time increases....I know with my mates I had to wait just over 2 hours for the code in screen to come up.

Give this a try...

leave the radio switched on for an hour....if the screen doesn't change after an hour hold the tuner band button for 4 secs.

If there's numbers stuck on the screen the button next to the power button clears them....hold for about 4 seconds

What are the model numbers of the radios you need the codes for?

I dont need any codes now, I managed to decode the Two unknown radios, which now work fine!

The two radios that are blocked I have the codes for - I do that procedure you sugested, and it just draws up 4 lines below the block out lines already in the display...
