Well!
We didn't have time to hang around for the rescue, but a kindly Discovery driver ploughed through, sending the bow wave through the open windows just before we left...
The police and a recovery truck were waiting at the other side......

When water is running across the road like that it's entirely possible that there is a Fiesta, or even Discovery, sized hole in the road.

if its set up the same way as the xantia engine you need to keep an eye on the automatic auxilliary belt tensioner....its so low down it can get get wet if you start er aquatic driving which tends to shorten its life (i have done two like that over the years)

I wonder what the audience on the far right of the picture were thinking?

This could have also been one of many they had seen go wading/diving in!

Hi, Not an expert on Peugeot 405 but if it has a cat. on it I would check that as well as the down pipes and the joint between them. I had a Renault laguna and went through a flood not even as deep as yours when it was about 5 years old. The cat. was very hot as I had just travelled about 40 miles and a similar noise started with me. I took it to my mate and he told me the cat. was gone and the joint to the front pipe wasn't to good either. Replaced the cat. and everthing was fine, noise and fumes gone. If the cat. is damaged in any way this could make the car run slightly lumpy at tick over right throught to no power when trying to pull away.
Hope this helps.

dr.lovexxx, my first thought was the cat. etc. but have had all that replaced (needed doing anyway).

I am now thinking that some insulation on the bulkhead has gone awol, as the car is running fine (well apart from a dead battery, b****y cold weather) it isn't burning oil or excessive fuel, nor is there a lack of power.
It is just noisy, more so inside than outside.
