Hi guys; New boy here. I have acquired a really nice looking Xantia 2.0 16v auto Exclusive. Unfortunately the beauty is only skin deep and I have a few electrical ? problems.
1) The internal fan only runs flat out.
2) Only one fan for the engine cooling works and this only kicks in when temp gauge shows 110 deg c.
I have e-mailed Jim re the internal fan.
On the engine cooling fans where should I start ? bearing in mind that I am not an electrical wiz.

Engine fans - start with the relays which are located at the front between the two fans. Take off the plastic panel that goes between the headlights and you should see a sort of triangular box. Take the lid of and there should be 3 relays inside. If you pull them out you will find that the sockets and/or blades are corroded or showing signs of overheating. A good clean-up will help matters but in can be an ongoing battle.

Hi Keith,
Welcome to the forum
Cooling fans.. Our resident fan specialist, Clogzz has posted several threads on this very subject. A search under this name will bring up an encyclopaedic knowledge of the fan control circuitry and the problems suffered by the relays.

Did you get my email Keith? It looks like you have the classic problem with the blower generating a mini hurricane in the car as soon as the ignition is on. If this is the case, I'll do the repair for you...hirsty wrote: I have e-mailed Jim re the internal fan.

No need for wizardry to tackle the cooling fans, this topic and pictures are good places to start:

A good clean and tighten as suggested by rory_perrett will give you the ‘feel’ of it.

Thanks clogzz. Have checked and cleaned relays. Also switched them round cos l/h worked with a/con on. Relays are fine. I think i'm going to have to renew r/h fan.
