As a Devonist, do you happen to know where yesterday's edition of "The Body Farm" was filmed?

My daughter was convinced that it was Whitby (Yorkshire) but although there were some striking similarities there were also some telling differences.

Tint' Whitby - it's Staithes - well worth a visit. go weekdays.
Thanks Dippy.
I've driven past Staithes a million times but never ducked in there - my mother was born in Staithes (Steers  ) then moved to Wales.

The local ARC carwash places run an underbody wash during the winter to combat the effects of salt.

No need to replace the ball joint if you split the boot, as replacement boots can be bought on e-bay. Very effective and less labour intensive.

They do indeed, however they do also run a buffer down the sides and roof  I used to take our previous C5 estate through, didn't take too many goes before the paintwork became dull, buffed and scratched

I prefer to washing the cars by hand with a good hosing with the pressure wash and a good wash with a cotton mitt, followed by a dry with a waffle towel. Though its not a welcoming experience when its freezing cold outside. You know its cold when the water your trying to dry had turned to ice and the driveway has been made into a skating wrink

There is an excellent hand car wash around here though, they do a very good job, use loads of water so to not scratch the paintwork, pressure wash under the wheel arches and car and they use soft wash mitts too. They even do in the door shuts and all for a fiver! I usually wash the cars myself but when its freezing cold its nice to know there is an alternative

Never knew that Robert :D That's excellent. Number of times I've written off balljoints simply because of a split boot is legendary...

Got a link?

Yer welcome.

It's befell the great disease of the wealthy & leisure industries buying up cottages for use as holiday homes , and making housing unnattainable for the natives , not sure how many locals are left , which is a shame wherever it happens .
Least' with our caravan we only intrude on beauty spots for a very short while & boost the local economy a little.

Proper foo - erk up theer old luv , I'm happy to say. :)

Well, not a lot has happened on the car front. The Xantia did pass its MoT with a few advisories, rusty towbar, oil leaks etc. No show stoppers, they were just getting me back for the wiper incident...

Citronuts wheels I got a couple of years ago are now sporting a set of Michelin Alpin A3's. Trying to get any decent winter tyres in this country was turning into a nightmare so I asked Citroenmad and he recommended a Polish company called Oponeo. Managed to bag the tyres for £54 each, just days before they increased the price. As soon as the frost kicks in, I'll swap the wheels.

I've been working on the XMs ABS the last couple of Saturdays. Odd symptomns which I'll go into at a later date but there were two faults. The supply relay and plug was corroding and the NSF sensor had gone open circuit. Relay all cleared up now, just need to source a Teves ABS sensor, could be fun as I need to remember that the XM had several different systems throughout its life!

Good news on RUNN and her MOT :-D

Kev, I think, maybe wrong, but the Teves ABS sensors used on the S2 XM are the same as S2 Xantia ones...

Mr. Manning will know for sure...

Im fairly sure your right Jim,
You should have no problem if its a teves one you need Kev. Its the earlier bendix ones that are a PITA to get hold of!
Excellent on the MOT, I considered winter tyres and did bid on franklins alloys he had on ebay for this purpose, but think ill just stick to my
normal tyres.

Not a bad price at all Kev, I wish mine were that price!

Ive had my winter tyres fitted for about a month now, so about 1700 miles. They are superb even with the slightly warmish weather for this time of year. I went for Firestone Winterhawks and im impressed, wet grip is quite a bit better than my usual Michelin Primacys, which are already excellent in the wet.

Ah, so thats what you were doing with your XM ...

Hi Kev and Jim

Not yet crosschecked Xantia Teves with XM Teves so I cannot be sure about the sensors.
The systems are both Teves Mk 4.
It is unlikely that the ECU's will be safely interchangable.
Valve block possible but needs the specs cheching.
Sensors need checking for orentation and coil positioning.
Had so few ABS failures with XM Teves that I am getting slowly rid of the Bendix stuff.
Bendix to Teves cut over on XM's was ORGA 6741 for all except V6-24v with PRV engine which continued with Bendix.
No RHD Mk2 cars made with that engine.

Cheers for the pointers there. There's not much price difference between the Xantia and XM one genuine wise so I'll probably get the XM one.

Been working on the Xantia a bit today, got the wheels swapped over so now we're running on the Michelin Alpin A3's. I must say the road noise has decreased and the rolling resistance appears to be less. Grip does seem to be a little down though I think thats just because they need bedding in a bit. Only went on a short test drive into town. While I was in the mood for tinkering under the car I decided to adjust the damned exhaust as it has been rattling for a good 12 months or so near the back.
The root problem appears to be that the pipe between the cat and back box is a touch too long, the join between the exit from the cat to the mid pipe is fully at home. Basically the back box is being pushed back too far causing it to rotate around the rubber mounting pivot things upwards, pulling the mid pipe up to hit the heat shield. I didn't particularly want to start butchering the exhaust system so I've lowered two of the back box mounting points a touch (read bent the brackets down then bent the bit where the rubber mounts up level again so it doesn't fall off). The mid pipe now doesn't fowl the heat shield, result!

It's shocking how you get used to these little noises, it feels like a different car with these new wheels and less rattly exhaust :)

Still not perfect, a couple of other little niggles have cropped up. First is that the clock display is a bit dodge, segments are displaying correctly. NS courtesy light doesn't switch on but the bulb is fine and the door opening detector switch thingy for the drivers door has been getting gradually worse. For the time being, I'm going to swap it with one of the rear doors so I can at least get the courtesy lights and lights on alarm working but I'll have to see if I have one in the ever growing stash.

On a completely unrelated note, recently I've decided it was about time that I replaced my current mattress which we worked out is comfortably in its 30s, probably 35 years. It was my mum's when she lived at home  oh god....actually I don't want to think about that...it was around about that time she met my dad...ahem moving swiftly on  It was quite a good experience mattress shopping, I ended up getting quite nerdy with it, the salesmen showed me cross sections of different mattress technologies, how they can be combined and that, very educational. Although I managed to strike a good deal, I spent a little more than I had hoped but at the end of the day, a good nights sleep is crucial. After coming back to this old lump after trying out all of those today I really cannot wait until its delivered just in time for Christmas!

Glad the tyres are a bit quieter, they no doubt just need a bit of scrubbing in until they become grippy. The A3s get very good reviews. Ive just had to sort out my rear tyres as the ESP has been working overtime lately, my front winter tyres are showing up my rear winters quite badly! New Mercedes Approved (!) Dunlop WInter Sports on the way, hopefully.

An interesting family heirloom that is!

Well this one should see you to nearly retirement age then Kev

Actually by the time we get anywhere near the current retirement age it will no doubt have shot up so we are still working at 95

I feel for you youngsters :( For me, hopefully unless the rules change again, 5 years, nine months, 10 days, 9 hours and counting...

Can you tell I'm looking forward to it
