Well, not much done this week. I have two new Vredesteins Sportrac 3s sitting in the house ready to be fitted to the car.

I did get round to swapping the Hydraflush out with LHM, was quite surprised that it only took around 3l of LHM. The Hydraflush wasn't very dirty either, further belied by the fact the filters were fairly clean.

Bled the brakes and they are now much better in their application, however they are now showing themselves to be in a state where they need replacement. I fear the discs are warped as there is a definite oscillation when braking that is not the ABS. Under heavy, abrupt braking, the car pulls to the left too. Thats the next job.

Engine seems to be a bit noisier than it should be, am putting this down to it needing filters etc replaced.

The exterior is now filthy, not cleaned it for months  but I do really want to get it loking tidy again so once all the mechanicals are done I will be looking at getting some jobs done on that.

Finally, there MAY (only a distant possibility at the moment) be a chance that I shall have another Xantia soon . Maybe the start of a Citroen fleet

Ive read right through this thread recently, its a very good blog :D

Nice to see you went for the sportracs, just make sure they are fitted correctly

Our 206 2.0HDi gets a bit noisey when its nearing a service, so it may well be that which is causing your slightly noisier engine. A good service, motor flush, new filters and things generally quietens it down for another 12K miles. I know it should be done more often, every 6K is long enough for my liking.

Its never easy to have a clean car at this time of year, one of the reasons our Xm gets very little use over the winter months. Although you soon apprecieate a clean car once its done, after having it so dirty for so long!

Good luck with your Activa business, Chris.

I do hope so, it's in the pipeline anyway, along with numerous other jobs (and I mean numerous )

Well, I spotted that and now I've spotted a V6 which is also tempting me greatly

Well, nothing on the Activa or V6 front. It's not a primary concern, I still have a car so I have the liberty of hanging on until I find the perfect one.

The HDi is now all booked in for it's MOT tomorrow. Going to have two new tyres fitted and alignment done for piece of mind before the test. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Just got back....not happy.

It failed on both front brake hoses (excessively deteriorated)

Nearside Sterring rack gaiter split

and a 30% imbalance on the front brakes

Seems I have some work to do. Think I may have to bite the bullet and do all my discs and pads at the same time. About to check Service Citroen and GSF now for parts.

:(

All straightforward enough Toby, one good thing about the flexi hoses is that due to the LHM, they are arely corroded in as those using horrible conventional brake fluid so that's not bad...
Toby_HDi wrote: Nearside Sterring rack gaiter split
It had to be that one   That's the difficult side due to the ram spigot poking through it. I believe the job ican be made easier now by getting a special super-stretchy one. The only remaining job that will be just a bit of a pain will be removing the ram. You may need a special modified 12mm split ring to get one of the hydraulic unions apart.

Burger :?

"It failed on both front brake hoses (excessively deteriorated)"

Shouldn't be too bad to do.

"and a 30% imbalance on the front brakes "

Mine was exhibiting this recently. I stripped the pads out and cleaned / copperslipped them up well and it now pulls up straight - the pads are a tight fit in the caliper frame, and any crap in there will stop them sliding. Note that the HDi 110 uses the biggest brakes, and the pads and discs are not cheap - so only replace if required. Note: When reassembling the caliper make sure the cut outs in the 'nut' at the bottom line up with the tabs on the washer. Otherwise they bend and it's a right PITA to straighten them out again

"Nearside Sterring rack gaiter split "

Now that IS a (-expletive removed-). That's the difficult one. You need to get a stretchy boot so that you can get it over the PAS ram stud - it used to be that Pug 405 ones were preferred to BX ones as they were stretchy - don't know if the same is true of 406 / Xantia ones. Otherwise try your local factors for a generic one that can be stretched.

Well, the steering rack gaiter has been done. Not by me though. I just do not have the motivation for anything recently.

I did however try to do my pads, discs and brake hoses today, got as far as swapping one side on the front and now I really don't feel too good so have abandoned the job. Not too good really :(
