Well at least you've owned one (or three :) ).
Until I get a place with a nice dry garage its out of the question for me for the time being.

Hi Nick

The last one, a CX25 DTR Turbo Safari, I had for seven years and covered over 150 k miles in it. A measure of my regard for it can be appreciated in the fact that I had to replace the head gasket about every 15k, it suffered from the (now) well know pourous block syndrome, thats about ten head gaskets, in addidtion to two heads in an attempt to cure the problem, but at least it was a lot easier to work on than the XM! It really was a fantastic car in its time. the design of the steering and suspension was far better than the XM - that has better creature comforts though.

CX'S ARE TOTALLY FABULOUS CARS - I'M BESOTTED WITH MINE!

Used my GTi Turbo2 to work this morning and was 15 mins earlier than
usual. What's sooo special about the blue one with no MOT on ebay that's
on 2.6k anyway!!?? :? Am I missing something...

Certainly finally looks like Cx's are heading up in value; I'm sitting on
a goldmine then! \:D/ \:D/

This one sounds nice and would be well worth considering:

Certainly a truly impressive car and Porche's are ten a penny.

You could do a bit of undertaking on the side with a black Safari/Familiale 8)

Due to Citroen outsourcing the manufacture of the engine block during the last few years of production wasn't it??

Apparently they were produced in India. Personally I'm not totally convinced
by the whole porous block story but there was obviously a weakness on the
engine somewhere as sales of head gaskets in the 90's would show! Yes,
I've had problems too and examined the bore and saw the scarring from
water sitting for prolonged periods of the car being idle due to water
system pressurisation but eventually fixed the problem with a different
(2200 na) head and water pump and its mounting body. Didn't change the
block from the original engine fitted in 1988 and it still works today!
A truly superb engine when it works making one of the best more useful
Cx's when combined with an estate Safari bodyshell!

Thanks for all the help & advice guys.

I'm going to look at a car tomorrow which if its half as good as the advert and pictures will be the one I have, I've gone for a beemer ( I've had a couple of these before, but in saloon style & with the 2.5 litre straight six).

This one is the 1.8 litre petrol model, its a 96 car, but one of the last E34's, rather than an early E39 (they didn't do a 1.8 litre E39)

Some pictures here if anyone is interested :

I had a go in a couple of 3 series diesel estates yesterday, a 1.8 tds, and a 2.5 tds, I'd never driven a 3 series before, and as fantastic as the 5 series is, I found the 3 series to be very ordinary

Again, many thanks for the help guys, your a nice bunch (rather like the lads on that beemer forum)
Best wishes

Nigel
