Xsara Top Strut Bearings

Post by killie77 »

Hi
Posted a while ago regarding a strange noise I was getting from the Xsara when I moved the wheel from stationery .
At the time I wasn't sure where it was coming from.
Have since found one of the Drop Links was on it's way out replaced that but still get the Noise to a certain extent.
Had another look and one of the Top Strut mount bearings. appears to have gone.
Enquired at my local parts store whether they came as a single unit or a Kit
was told their part of a Kit and cost around £50 plus Vat
So was wondering if anyone knew of a place just to buy the Bearing ?
Thanks
Ian

5035.27 THRUST BEARING
Here in DK my local Citroen dealer wants the equvalent of £17 ex vat for this bearing.
The bearing fits a huge range of Citroen/Peugeot models with the standard front McPherson strut.
It should certainly be available all over where you otherwise find aftermarket parts for cars : GSF, Europarts, Halfords etc.

Thanks Anders
it's good to know it's available I suspect they wanted to sell me the whole assembly hence the Price.
Do you know if it's possible to fit the bearing without removing the Strut.
can it be done on the Car ?
Thanks
Ian

You dont need to remove the strut completely
You must however first release the strut upper mont from carrying the car to undo the topmount safely.
You will find it pretty logic once you are looking at it.

A good tip is to tie the strut into the wheelarch preventing it tilting out withdrawing the driveaxle from the diff - as then you will loose the gearoil.
