Peugeot 309td fuel primer.

Post by Peter.N. »

A friend of mine has a 309td with a leaking fuel primer which I think is integral with the filter housing. Is it possible to repair them? If not where can I get a replacement?

Thanks.

Re-building to a later style filter-only housing and a universal type in-line (maritime) primer bulb is an easy & cheap option.

the problem you will get with a filter head/primer of this type leaking is it will let air into the syatem, as usualy when they leak its because the diaghpram is perished, so i think the best fix is replace the head

Thanks for all you suggestions, yes it is letting air in so something needs doing. I have one here from a Ford 1800 diesel which I might try. Didn't know about the universal ones though, who stocks them, we dont have a local anything here, probably Exeter about 30 miles away.

The Ford one should work but it probably flows in the wrong direction so you might have to be creative with the mounting.

A used one will get you going but should be regarded as temporary. I expect most motor factors could get you one, or possibly Euro/GSF could send one.

Hi Richard

I did try the GSF online catalogue but couldn't find one. I will give them a ring. Thanks.

Job done. Thanks for all your input. I had the car here this morning after going and rescuing it as it stopped altogether. I found that the Sierra 1.8 filter assembly is an almost exact replacement, the holes and pipes are in the right place and the flow direction is correct.

I've never been that lucky, every time I need one in an emergency the only available spare flows the wrong way and I have a nightmare making it fit.
