Tiresome wiring loom woes.

Post by C.J. »

After the 'wonderfully fullfilling experience' of having to change the tailgate on monday evening, I'm at a loss as to why Citroen didn't fit a disconnectable multi plug socket at the top of the tailgate, to save the rather long winded and extremely tiresome task of feeding the loom complete with a dozen block connectors down and through various holes and gullies in the hatchback frame.
That part of the job took longer than the actual removal and fitting of the tailgate tbh.
Still, we all love a challenge ey? :x

Would love to see how they do/did it in the factory.

I've found removal of the tailgate in a reusable state, ie no cut wires, is only
satisfactorily achieved by disconnection of the multiplugs in the 'hinge' area
of the trailing edge of the roof accessed by slightly dropping down the
headlining. Still a bit of a fiddle feeding the plugs into the roof area but it'll
only be a few inches rather than the length of the tailgate...

Now that's interesting. When the tailgate was taken off at the breakers yard, he pulled the headling back to see if he could find some connectors, but they weren't there on the 2000 'donor' model. :?
Wire cuters then had to be used to enable us to take the tailgate off without the hassle of feeding all the wiring back through the tailgate.
What a waste of a loom.
